APSU Woodward Library Society to have fall program

The Clarksville Community Concert AssociationClarksville, TN – The Brentano String Quartet, one of the world’s pre-eminent chamber music ensembles, will visit Austin Peay State University at 7:30pm on October 19th for a special performance in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.

The event is hosted by the Clarksville Community Concert Association, which works to bring world-class and engaging artists of the highest quality to the local community.

APSU to begin new concert series Friday at The Gilroy

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University National Alumni Association will begin a three-concert series leading up to Homecoming.

The City Lights Concert Series, sponsored by The Gilroy, Budweiser of Clarksville and APSU Alumni Relations, will begin Friday, October 12th. APSU alumni, friends and fans are invited.

All shows will start at 8:00pm at The Gilroy, located on the corner of University Avenue and Main Street, with doors opening at 6:00pm. [Read more]

Three women – Naomi Rendina, adjunct instructor of history at APSU, Alexandra Wills, assistant director of service and civic engagement at APSU, and Lisa Kurtz, representative with Americorps VISTA – will present “Beyond the Classroom: Enriching Community Partnerships to Promote Student Success” at 3:00pm, Thursday, October 11th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. Austin Peay Downtown Art GalleryClarksville, TN – This month, the Austin Peay Downtown Gallery will present “Grow Where You’re Planted,” an exhibition of new works by APSU assistant professor of art Paul Collins.

The exhibit, which opens with a reception from 5:00pm-8:00pm on October 4th, will feature drawings and paintings inspired by the incredible rate of vegetative growth in the landscape of Middle Tennessee.

APSU history students tour World War II vessel

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In early 1943, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill is alleged to have said, “The destinies of two great empires…seemed to be tied up in some damned things called LSTs.”

He was referring to the amphibious vessels known as Landing Ship Tank that were used to transport tanks, armored vehicles, trucks and soldiers to major World War II invasion sites such as Sicily and Normandy. More than 1,000 ships were built, but Churchill complained that more were needed to win the war.
