APSU choral activities hosting 3rd annual Holiday Dinner December 1st

Clarksville, TN – In the summer of 2010, Dr. Korre Foster, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music, traveled to the eastern European country of Latvia in search of choral music. He went on this journey after meeting Baiba Kelley, a local woman of Latvian descent who yearned to again hear the music of her native country.
Austin Peay State University students traveled to Wisconsin for annual MathFest Conference

Clarksville, TN – In early August, when many students dread the approaching academic year, seven Austin Peay State University students eagerly jumpstarted their semester by traveling to Madison, WI, for the Mathematics Association of America’s annual MathFest Conference.
Four of the students gave presentations, one student had a job interview with the National Security Agency and another student developed plans to found a chapter of the National Association of Women in Mathematics at APSU. [Read more]
APSU employees announce their professional, scholarly achievements

Clarksville, TN – Three faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced publications or conferences attended as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Jill Franks, professor of languages and literature, had her book, titled “Voices of Irish and British Women Writers: A Comparative Feminist Analysis,” accepted for publication by McFarland and Company. It is scheduled for release in Spring 2013. [Read more]
Duotone art exhibit comes to APSU November 19th

Clarksville, TN – Beth Liggett is the official photographer for Austin Peay State University, a photojournalist and an editorial and lifestyle photographer based in Clarksville.
On November 19th, a new exhibit of her work, titled “Duotone,” will open at APSU in the Morgan University Center Pop-Up Gallery. Liggett has chosen works that express the duality of her professional and her artistic work for this show.

Clarksville, TN – The Nashville Symphony and the Nashville Symphony Chorus will appear in concert on Sunday, November 11th, 2012 at 3:00pm in the Austin Peay State University Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.
This is part of the Clarksville Community Concert Association (CCCA) 2012-13 series and is co-sponsored by Austin Peay State University (APSU). This historic occasion, held in conjunction with the APSU re-naming of the Concert Hall in honor of Drs. George and Sharon Mabry, marks the first time that both the Nashville Symphony orchestra and chorus would appear on the CCCA series.
APSU Provost Lecture Series to focus on volcanic eruption

Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University geologist whose expertise in volcanoes is well established in the field will share a three-dimensional analysis of the 1999 eruption of the Shishaldin Volcano in Alaska as part of the next Provost Lecture Series at APSU.
Dr. Lindsay Szramek, assistant professor of geosciences, will present “Three-Dimensional Analysis of Mafic Pumice from the 1999 sub-Plinian eruption of Shishaldin Volcano, Alaska” at 3:00pm, Thursday, November 8th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. Clarksville-Montgomery County to Host 2015 and 2016 Basketball Championships

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce that the community will host the 2015 and 2016 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 4th Grade Division One and Division Two Boys’ Basketball National Championships. The tournaments will take place in mid-July of both years.
Traditionally, the AAU Basketball Site Selection Committee meets annually, where they bid on tournaments in advance of two and three years. This very competitive process generally includes bid seekers from cities such as Albuquerque, Houston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Detroit. [Read more]
APSU Creative Writing Club hosting Playfest at Roxy Regional Theater November 28th

Clarksville, TN – At 7:00pm on November 28th, a group of Austin Peay State University students will showcase their creative writing skills as dramatists with the inaugural Playfest event at the Roxy Regional Theater.
The evening will feature eight plays, around 10 minutes each, by student members of the APSU Creative Writing Club (CWC).
“The plays are novice in nature, but I think that’s quite refreshing,” club member Renee Ramsey said. “There’s a certain beauty that comes with the amateur level, and we guarantee you’ll see something you’ve never seen before.” [Read more]

APSU hosts 18th annual Bread and Words reading on November 20th

Clarksville, TN – Every November, on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts a benefit reading that not only celebrates the written word, but also raises public awareness of hunger in the local community.
This year, the tradition continues with the 18th Annual Bread and Words reading on November 20th in the APSU Morgan University Center Ballroom. [Read more]
