APSU Employees share recent professional developments, activities

Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of publications, conferences and credentials as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Chris Burawa, director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, has had several professional developments. He translated from Icelandic a short story by Óskar Magnússon, “Dr. Amplatz,” which will be published in Best European Fiction 2014 by Dalkey Archive Press. [Read more]
Clarksville Senior City Amateur to be held at Swan Lake Golf Course, August 3rd and 4th

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Senior City Am will be held on August 3rd and 4th at Swan Lake Golf Course and is open to males that are 50 years of age or older prior to August 7th, 2013.
Residents of Clarksville/Montgomery County, TN, active duty military personnel residing on post at Fort Campbell, or resident students at Austin Peay State University are eligible.

Austin Peay State University ROTC cadet Cynthia Stinnett earns top honor in regiment

Clarksville, TN – In early July, Austin Peay State University announced that Cynthia Stinnett, a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet, took top honors during the 8th Regiment Army physical fitness test held recently at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.
Now she has another accolade to add to her resume.

Austin Peay State University Business Scholarship endowed by Clarksville resident to honor his late wife

Clarksville, TN – In the 1940s, Richard Powers enrolled in an economics class at Austin Peay State University. So did Mary Marks, and the two later were married for the next 58 years.
“We were both taking summer courses at that time,” Powers said.
His wife died in March 2008. To honor her memory, Powers established the Mary Marks Powers Scholarship for Business with a $50,000 endowment. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University Summer Commencement to graduate 380 Students August 9th

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will award degrees to approximately 380 students during its 84th Summer Commencement on Friday, August 9th in the Dunn Center.
Commencement will begin at 2:00pm. Doors will open at 1:00pm for guests.
In addition, Breanna Price, who is enrolled as a cadet in the University’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), will be commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Austin Peay State University receives 2013 ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ honor

Clarksville, TN – For the second consecutive year, Austin Peay State University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
In addition, APSU was the only public university in Tennessee to make the list.
Clarksville Montgomery County School System announces Administrative Appointments

Montgomery County, TN – A high school principal has resigned to take a position in North Carolina and a number of administrative appointments have been made in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for the 2013-14 school year.
Austin Peay State University Nursing Student Hayley Beard earns National Scholarship

Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University nursing student was awarded a scholarship from the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association for the 2013-14 academic year.
Hayley Beard was one of 69 students across the nation to receive the Promise of Nursing Regional Scholarship. She joins eight other nursing students in Tennessee who also were named recipients of the award, according to a press release from the foundation.

APSU Communication Professor, Student produce Dix Documentary to air this Month

Clarksville, TN – Anyone who has visited the Dorothy Dix Collection at Austin Peay State University knows that the collection tells only a portion of a woman who was the forerunner of today’s popular advice columnists and America’s most widely read and highest paid journalists.
A new documentary, written and produced by an APSU faculty member and a student, will shed more light on Dix’s life and career when it airs on television later this month. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University provost Dr. Tristan Denley to take position as vice chancellor at Tennessee Board of Regents

Clarksville, TN – APSU’s chief academic official, Dr. Tristan Denley who currently serves as Provost, has informed the campus community that he has accepted a position with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, pending an official vote by the TBR.
Tentative plans are for Denley to begin in his new role with TBR in August.
