APSU Nursing Program supports Breast Cancer Research at 5K race

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The fight against breast cancer received a boost last month when more than 30 members of the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing participated in the Susan G. Komen 2015 Race for the Cure 5K in Brentwood Tennessee.

Rebecca MacAdam, a senior nursing student, organized APSU’s participation in the event, with APSU raising more than $2,300 for breast cancer research.

International journal to publish several articles by APSU nursing faculty

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The international journal Nursing Clinics of North America is considered one of the top scholarly publications in that field, and the spring issue, known as a clinic, will feature articles by 11 Austin Peay State University School of Nursing faculty members.

The nursing professors were selected to contribute to the publication because Dr. Chita Farrar, APSU professor of nursing, was invited to guest edit the issue.

APSU School of Nursing receives $35,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University School of Nursing and the Montgomery County Health Department will continue to support the fight against breast cancer, thanks to a recent $35,985 grant from the Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

For the second year in a row, the Nashville Komen affiliate has awarded the grant to the two organizations to provide breast health education and services to underserved populations in this community.

Brown Foundation endows nursing scholarship at Austin Peay State University

April 10, 2014

Austin Peay State University - APSUSpringfield, TN – For several decades, the late Stokes Brown worked to improve the health of his community in Robertson County. He was instrumental in bringing the first hospital to the area, and later as a member of the hospital board, he supported a special fund that paid medical bills for the impoverished.

Earlier this month, the Robertson County community again benefited from his generous legacy when the Brown Family Foundation endowed a six-figure nursing scholarship at Austin Peay State University.

Austin Peay State University School of Nursing receives $60,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

June 5, 2013

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Thanks to a $60,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure-Greater Nashville Affiliate, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing will partner with the Montgomery County Health Department to begin a breast health program.

The effort will launch June 12th with a forum that will serve as a call to action for men and women to know the latest about breast cancer, specifically how to minimize their chances of developing the cancer and how to detect signs early.

APSU to kick off new GovTrails on March 27th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A walking trail at Austin Peay State University is becoming a reality, thanks to a state grant awarded to the University to designate the trails on campus and organize other efforts to encourage a healthier lifestyle.

The public is invited to walk GovTrails during a kick-off celebration at 11:30am, Wednesday, March 27th in the Morgan University Center plaza. This event will be held rain or shine.

Austin Peay alumna, family begin new nursing scholarship

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Mary Windham was known for her nursing and administrative accomplishments before coming to Austin Peay State University in the 1960s to teach and later organize the School of Nursing.

But that wasn’t her greatest gift.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Thanks to a state grant awarded to Austin Peay State University, designated walking trails on campus and nutrition education sessions are in the plans to encourage a healthier lifestyle.

The Tennessee Department of Health recently awarded the Eat Well, Play More Grant, which provides $20,000 in funding, to APSU to develop a program that will help those in the area have immediate access to an environment that encourages fitness and health. [Read more]
