Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) says that earlier this summer, The Stabroek News, “Guyana’s Most Trusted Newspaper Since 1986,” published a story about that country’s nurses needing stethoscopes.

Many of the nurses, working for Guyana’s Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), often have to scrounge for working stethoscopes while examining patients.

Austin Peay students participate, earn recognition during prestigious Vanderbilt nursing internship

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – One Austin Peay State University School of Nursing student was recently honored for her excellence as she and a number of other Austin Peay nursing students took part in a summer internship program at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).

Jessica Sheers received the VUMC Credo Award for her work as a maternal/infant track nursing intern during the Summer 2017 term.

Over the summer term of 2017, sixteen Austin Peay nursing students participated in a summer internship program called Vanderbilt Experience: Student Nurse Internship Program (VESNIP) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Austin Peay State University earns record amount of external grants

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The 2016-2017 academic year turned out to be a historic year for Austin Peay State University.

During that time period, APSU faculty and staff aggressively pursued outside funding to support research, student success initiatives and community outreach programs, resulting in a 76-percent increase in external grants over the previous year.

APSU School of Nursing and county health department receive grant for breast health

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Five years ago, Dr. Patty Orr, Austin Peay State University professor of nursing, and Joey Smith, director of the Montgomery County Health Department, made an unsettling discovery.

After looking into incidents of breast cancer in this area, they discovered that the mortality rate was disproportionately higher among women from traditionally under served populations.

APSU nursing faculty presents at international conference in South Africa

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Three Austin Peay State University School of Nursing professors traveled to South Africa earlier this summer to speak about their research at the 27th Sigma Theta Tau International Research Congress.

The congress, with more than 800 nurse researchers from 33 different countries, is the largest nursing research event in the world.

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – A few years ago, Kristin Meeks was worried about her future. The Austin Peay State University student worked two jobs to help pay for school, but she’d need more free time if she wanted to enroll in APSU’s prestigious School of Nursing.

“Nursing is my calling because I’ve always been drawn to science and to helping people,” she said. “But the program is really demanding, so you don’t have a lot of extra time to work.”

APSU’s Grace Moodt named to National Administrator Institute

Austin Peay State University - APSUIndianapolis, OH – Dr. Grace Moodt, interim director of the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing, was invited to participate in Sigma Theta Tau International’s (STTI) inaugural cohort of the Emerging Educational Administrator Institute(EEAI).

The STTI/Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education administers the institute thanks to a grant from the Chamberlain College of Nursing.

APSU nursing program ranked among best in nation

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s School of Nursing is one of the top nursing programs in the eastern United States, according to a recent survey by the website www.NurseJournal.org

APSU was ranked No. 32 in the journal’s inaugural list, beating out prestigious nursing programs at places such as Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of North Carolina.
