Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County to present donation to Austin Peay State University for Caribbean project

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Earlier this month, a group of 22 Austin Peay State University students traveled to the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago to build three houses for Habitat for Humanity.

At 8:00am on March 28th, Shelby Logsdon, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, will visit the APSU Honors Commons to receive an update from students about their service trip to Trinidad and Tobago. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the second year in a row, a group of Austin Peay State University students spent their spring break in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago on an intensive service trip.

This year’s group of 22 students traveled with Dr. Matthew Kenney, director of APSU’s President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP), to the small town of Valencia, where they spent a week building three houses with Habitat for Humanity.

APSU Psychology Student Caitlin Nelms to conduct Neuroscience Research at Vanderbilt this summer

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On a recent afternoon, Austin Peay State University psychology student Caitlin Nelms was in the library, checking her email, when she noticed a message sitting in her junk mail folder. It had been there a few days.

When she clicked on it, the message informed her that she was the sole recipient of a prestigious summer internship offered through the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Neuroscience’s and Vanderbilt University’s Summer Science Academy.

U.S. Sen. Corker speaks to PELP students in Honors Commons

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Students in the President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP) at Austin Peay State University asked several questions of U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, during his visit on campus September 29th, but one in particular perhaps affects young adults the most in today’s times.

“What can the students do to get involved?” one student asked.

Noted Native American Scholar and Filmmaker to Speak at APSU Asanbe Symposium

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s annual Asanbe Diversity Symposium, slated for next month, will feature Native American educator, writer, filmmaker and producer Dr. Patty Loew.

At 1:00pm on Friday, April 1st, Loew will lecture in the Honors Commons on “Creation to Contemporary Conflict: Native American Origin Stories as Predictors of Modern Environmental Struggles.” At 3:00pm in the same room, there will be a showing of her documentary film, “Way of the Warrior,” followed by a 4:00pm discussion of the film. APSU student organizations arrange car wash to help raise money for victims of tsunami in Japan

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Two student groups at Austin Peay State University have joined forces to raise money and educate the campus about the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in northeast Japan on March 11th.

The President’s Emerging Leaders Program and Student Life and Leadership will sponsor a car wash at 9:00am, Saturday, March 26th in the parking lot of Chick-fil-a on Madison Street. PELP students and students who sign up through Student Life and Leadership’s Saturday projects will work the car wash for donations only. [Read more]
