Nonprofit executive Mallory Fundora finishes freshman year at APSU

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University freshman Mallory Fundora, founder and chief operating officer of the nonprofit Project Yesu, recently completed her first year at APSU, but before she can relax and enjoy her summer, she has to make a three-week business trip to Africa.

It’s a complaint that takes a lot of forms — some wish they had studied abroad, others wish they joined a campus club and still more wish they had taken that internship opportunity — but you would not be alone in wishing you had said “yes” more often during your college years.

APSU students perform service work in Caribbean over winter break

Clarksville, TN – A group of Austin Peay State University students recently spent a week during winter break in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, volunteering their time during an annual intensive service trip.
This year’s group of 18 students traveled with Dr. Matthew Kenney, director of Austin Peay’s President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP), to the small town of La Romain, where they worked with Habitat for Humanity on a local housing project.
APSU Students spent Winter Break in Trinidad and Tobago doing volunteer work.
Austin Peay State University Graduate Student Megan Hart First Recipient of Robert M. Hatcher Scholarship

Nashville, TN – Megan Hart, a graduate student at Austin Peay State University, is the first recipient of the Robert M. Hatcher Memorial Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is named in honor of Bob Hatcher, who served the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for 38 years including serving as the Non-Game and Endangered Species Coordinator from 1987 until 2001.
Megan completed her bachelor’s degree in biology in 2015 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is pursuing her master’s degree in biology, focusing on conservation and wildlife biology.
Megan Hart has received the honor of being the first recipient of the Robert M. Memorial Scholarship. To Megan’s right is Mr. Hatcher’s wife, Betty. Clarksville, TN – Next week, a new generation of female leaders will visit Austin Peay State University for the 2016 Girls’ Leadership Summer Camp.
The APSU Department of Political Science, the APSU College of Business and the APSU President’s Emerging Leaders Program are hosting the leadership development camp, which runs from June 6th-10th.

New APSU class combines service learning with study abroad

Clarksville, TN – On a cold, overcast morning in November, hundreds of well-dressed shoppers huddled against the wind outside a west London British Red Cross store. In America, this type of establishment is simply referred to as a thrift store, but in England, these shops tend to be a little swankier.
“What we think of as a thrift store is not really the same as their thrift stores,” Tracy Nichols, Austin Peay State University communication instructor, said. “Some of their stores are like upscale, New York boutiques.”

Austin Peay State University provost Dr. Tristan Denley to take position as vice chancellor at Tennessee Board of Regents

Clarksville, TN – APSU’s chief academic official, Dr. Tristan Denley who currently serves as Provost, has informed the campus community that he has accepted a position with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, pending an official vote by the TBR.
Tentative plans are for Denley to begin in his new role with TBR in August.

Two APSU Students earn prestigious Goldwater Scholarships

Clarksville, TN – Administrators at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) were probably pretty excited last month when they learned one of their students had earned a highly competitive Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
To the south, officials at the University of Tennessee likely experienced a similar rush when they heard one of their students was also named a Goldwater Scholar.
