More than a year ago, APSU launched Degree Compass, a course recommendation system to help students stay on track toward graduation by. It was dubbed “the Netflix effect” because it provides students with personalized recommendations based on their academic transcript, similar to the way Netflix makes movie suggestions to customers. The system, which was lauded by the Chronicle of Higher Education in the article, “The Netflix Effect: When Software Suggests Students’ Courses,” works similar to sites such as Netflix and Amazon.com by suggesting to students what courses best fit their talents and programs of study. [Read more]

Noted Native American Scholar and Filmmaker to Speak at APSU Asanbe Symposium

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s annual Asanbe Diversity Symposium, slated for next month, will feature Native American educator, writer, filmmaker and producer Dr. Patty Loew.

At 1:00pm on Friday, April 1st, Loew will lecture in the Honors Commons on “Creation to Contemporary Conflict: Native American Origin Stories as Predictors of Modern Environmental Struggles.” At 3:00pm in the same room, there will be a showing of her documentary film, “Way of the Warrior,” followed by a 4:00pm discussion of the film. Provost Lecture Series at APSU to feature Fulbright Scholar

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will feature a Fulbright Visiting Scholar who will discuss U.S. and Russia relations.

Dr. Alexander Kubyshkin, professor of North American studies in the School of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University in Russia, will speak at 6:00pm, Wednesday, February 23rd in the Morgan University Center Ballroom C.

His visit is sponsored by the U.S. Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the APSU Department of Political Affairs and the offices of Academic Affairs and International Education. The event is free and open to the public. [Read more]

Graduate education to be celebrated in March at APSU with 2 events

First, undergraduate students can learn about APSU’s career-enhancing online and on-site graduate programs at the Graduate Education Event anytime between 10:00am-2:00pm, Tuesday, March 1st in the Morgan University Center, rooms 303 and 305. [Read more]
