APSU recognizes outstanding faculty during 2015 Academic Awards Ceremony

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On April 28th, Austin Peay State University recognized several outstanding faculty members during the annual Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony in the Mabry Concert Hall.

The University’s top faculty honor, the APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, was presented to Dr. Nell Rayburn, professor of mathematics. Rayburn earned her Ph.D. in mathematics from Vanderbilt University, and in 1988, she arrived at APSU as an assistant professor.

Noted transgender scholar and poet to speak at APSU’s Asanbe Diversity Symposium

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In 2006, Jay Ladin, a married father with three children, left Yeshiva University, where he worked as the Gottesman professor of English. Fifteen months later, Ladin returned as Joy, the first openly transgender employee at an Orthodox Jewish institution.

Ladin had struggled with her male identity throughout her life—attempting suicide twice by the time she was 10—but as a young boy, she found comfort in her Jewish faith. In a 2013 interview with the Peabody Award-winning podcast “On Being,” she said she experienced a powerful connection with the Torah’s one genderless character—God.

APSU recognized Outstanding Faculty at Annual Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On April 15th, Austin Peay State University recognized several outstanding faculty members during the annual Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony in the Mabry Concert Hall.

During an emotional presentation, the University’s top faculty honor, the APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, was presented posthumously to John Moseley, associate professor of communication. Moseley passed away on February 9th, after an 18-year career as an active faculty member at APSU. [Read more]

Dr. Rodney Mills, assistant professor of animal science, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, January 30th, in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The title of his lecture is “Development of a Sustainable Beef Production System: A Case Study of the APSU Farm and Environmental Education Center.”

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University graduate student will showcase her work at the Legislative Plaza in Nashville, TN as part of the annual Graduate Education Week in Tennessee, April 1st-7th.

Veronica Mullen will present research, titled “Population demographics and site-fidelity among cave-dwelling bats of Dunbar Cave, Montgomery County, Tennessee,” which was co-authored by Dr. Andrew Barrass, associate professor in the APSU Center of Excellence for Field Biology at APSU.

New Austin Peay State University Program promotes stronger teaching for APSU Professors

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A group of seven Austin Peay State University faculty members recently completed a new program at the school aimed at promoting excellence in teaching.

The APSU Office of Academic Affairs, the Title III Center for Teaching and Learning and the APSU Center for Extended and Distance Education recently co-sponsored the Faculty Teaching Program, which solicited a diverse group of top applicants from throughout APSU’s different colleges and academic departments.
