APSU celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with “Migration is Beautiful” series

Clarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.
In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.
APSU Provost Lecture Series: Art professor Jones to present Common Hope on September 26th

Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University art professor will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series this week at APSU.
Barry Jones, interim chair of the APSU Department of Art, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, September 26th, in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. His lecture will be about the “Common Hope” community art project he developed this year.

Austin Peay State University to exhibit newly donated folk art collection

Clarksville, TN – In a small storage room in the basement of Austin Peay State University’s Harned Hall, Marilyn Monroe is making things a bit awkward for President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie.
First off, the president and first lady are dressed formally, while Marilyn has opted to wear a red polka dot bikini. Then there’s that big smile of hers, which seems to mock the uncomfortable expression on Jackie’s face.

Duotone art exhibit comes to APSU November 19th

Clarksville, TN – Beth Liggett is the official photographer for Austin Peay State University, a photojournalist and an editorial and lifestyle photographer based in Clarksville.
On November 19th, a new exhibit of her work, titled “Duotone,” will open at APSU in the Morgan University Center Pop-Up Gallery. Liggett has chosen works that express the duality of her professional and her artistic work for this show.
Etcetera art exhibit comes to APSU on October 8th

Clarksville, TN – Artist Jennifer Oliphant wants to create a new appreciation for the beauty of everyday objects. That’s what she has in mind when she sets out to capture images with her camera.

Students and community members are invited to use the collection’s hand-carved wood letters and antique printing presses to created broadsides and prints that express their personal opinions about contemporary issues. Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University alumni who would like to come back to campus to see all the many changes that have occurred in the years since they graduated are invited to Alumni University on Saturday, July 28th.

Austin Peay State University to receive visit from renowned paper artist Helen Hiebert March 13th-16th

Clarksville, TN – The artist Helen Hiebert’s dazzling hand-made paper creations, from her “Peace Balloon” to an elaborate dress known as the “Mother Tree Project,” somehow evoke the lighter and calmer aspects of the natural world.
