Call of Duty Endowment launches Memorial Day Campaign to increase funding for Hire Heroes USA
The More People to “Like” the CODE Facebook Page, the More Funding for HHUSA
Washington, DC — The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) announced it is launching a five day Memorial Day campaign to increase its grant funding for Hire Heroes USA (HHUSA) and to build awareness about the issue of veterans’ unemployment. HHUSA is an organization which focuses on providing career transition assistance to recently returning veterans. For every new fan that helps CODE support veterans and says they “Like” the Call of Duty Endowment Facebook page, between Thursday, May 27th and Monday, May 31st, CODE will increase their donation to HHUSA by $1.00. The campaign will last until 11:59pm PDT on Memorial Day, or until a grant of $50,000 has been reached, whichever benchmark expires first.
The grant awarded from CODE will go towards employment training programs that help military veterans successfully compete for 21st Century careers. HHUSA partners industry professionals with transitioning veterans during employment transition workshops, provides veterans with intensive career development programs, and gives returning service members the necessary tools needed to sustain a successful outcome when entering the 21st Century workforce. Football skills camp to be held June 1st – 3rd

The Clarksville Greyhounds Youth Football League will hold a football skills camp on June 1st – 3rd, 2010. The camp will be held at the Greenwood Grounds Complex, 430 Greenwood Avenue, for ages 5-14. Walk up registration is $45.00.
Dental Association says mouthguard important piece of athletic gear
Injury risk nearly two times greater without mouth protection
CHICAGO, IL — If you participate in organized sports or recreational activities, there’s always the risk of injury to the mouth, says the American Dental Association (ADA).
In a recent NHL playoff game, a Chicago Blackhawk player was struck in the mouth by a speeding puck. Although wearing a mouthguard, according to news reports, the player lost seven teeth in the incident, which serves as a reminder that acute dental injuries can occur when least expected. [Read more]
H.O.P.E awards scholarships to four local high school students.
On Thursday, the Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education issued the Juan Vasquez scholarship to 4 High School Students from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Area: Yarliz Rodriguez, Francis Nicole Griffin, Rebecca S. Keyes, and Yazarette Guzman. Hope looked at the students civic involvement and their grades in determining who to award the scholarship to. [Read more]
Clarksville Police Department Youth Olympics
Clarksville Police Department’s 2nd Annual Youth Olympics Opening Ceremony will be June 5th at Northeast High School at 11:00 am. The Olympics” events will take place June 7th – 18th. It is open to all youth and young adults ages 11 – 17. The events will be: Cooking, Judo, Flag Football, Volleyball, Fishing, Bowling, Trivia, Archery, Basketball, Swimming, and Track.

Road construction will not delay Memorial Day travelers
TDOT Suspends All Lane Closure Activity for Busy Holiday Weekend; Urges Safety in Work Zones
NASHVILLE, TN – Road construction won’t slow motorists down as they travel Tennessee’s highways this Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 28th through 6:00 am on Tuesday, June 1st. This will provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists expected to travel in the state this Memorial Day weekend.
“Motorists traveling on our roadways this holiday weekend will have no construction-related lane closures impeding their travels,” said Commissioner Nicely. “We want to keep traffic flowing so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable trip through Tennessee.” [Read more]
APSU Alum Frazee awarded prestigious Teaching Fellowship
Austin Peay State University alumnus Catherine Frazee (’06) was recently named a recipient of a prestigious Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship.
Frazee, a former accountant for more than 15 years, earned her degree in communication arts and a minor in English writing at APSU. She now lives in Indiana and plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University this summer to begin her fellowship.
The 81 Fellows named this spring will enter innovative teacher preparation programs at four selected Indiana universities and then teach in the state’s high-need urban and rural schools. [Read more]

Country Super Group Asks Tennesseans to “Show Your Pride” in new Public Service Announcement
NASHVILLE, TN – If life is a highway, it’s a messy one in many parts of Tennessee, so country music super group Rascal Flatts is joining the Tennessee Department of Transportation to ask Tennesseans to do their part to clean it up by adopting a highway. Rascal Flatts members Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus are featured in a new 30 second public service announcement and on billboards across the state encouraging Tennesseans to “Show Your Pride and Adopt-A-Highway today”. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the volunteer program, encourage more participation and to remind motorists to Stop Litter in Tennessee.
In the new 30 second PSA, Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney picks up a piece of litter tossed along the side of a roadway and asks, “Think this is no big deal?”, as vocalist Gary LeVox remarks, “Think about 12 million pounds of it.” [Read more]
