Veterans Get Academic Help Prior to Enrolling in School
Clarksville, TN – Troops throughout the U. S. are returning from deployment. Many of them hope to use the Post-911 GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation to pursue college or technical school training. While they apply for benefits, most reflect that it has been quite some time since they were in school.
Filing for benefits is one challenge, but by far the biggest ordeal —hitting the books—lies ahead.
Veteran Darrell Chambers sums up his feelings this way: “You may have known the skills, but time caused you to forget. You need somewhere you can go to get help.” [Read more]
Tight, upright plants often fall victim to wintry precipitation
Written by Carol Reese
Wet, heavy snow like we experienced this past Monday can wreak havoc on some trees and shrubs. For others, it can be a good thing. Snow is a decent insulator, and can prevent damage from drying, freezing winds, which will suck moisture from foliage and stems.
The mass of dwarf yaupon in front of my office window is strong and dense enough to support several inches of snow without breakage.

APSU Philosophy Department honors student who has audited courses for 20-plus years
Clarksville, TN – Mildred Frensley may be the true definition of a “lifelong learner.”
In 1988, she decided to take the Critical Reasoning and Logic course at Austin Peay State University.
“I didn’t want to stagnate,” she said. “I wanted to learn something else.”
More than 20 years later, Frensley has audited almost every philosophy course offered in the APSU Department of History and Philosophy – some even more than once.

She has audited almost every philosophy course in the APSU Department of History and Philosophy, and professors in the department recently awarded her an honorary Doctor of Metaphysics.
