“Wine Around the World” to benefit local Red Cross

American Red CrossClarksville, TN – “Wine around the World” is coming to Clarksville, Saturday November 12th at the Water Street Events Center. This signature event will be one of a kind for Clarksville, as sponsors will be able to sample wine’s from all over the world, matched with foods paired perfectly with your selections.

“Wine around the World” will benefit the local chapter of the American Red Cross, continuing it’s mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Tickets are available at the Red Cross office on Madison Street, and are $55.00 in advance. Event chairperson Beth Tanner says the event will feature some of the finest wines from Spain, Germany, California, New Zealand, Portugal and France. [Read more]

Prostate Cancer Support and Education Group to meet October 27th

September 2011 is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in Montgomery County and Clarksville

Madison Street United Methodist ChurchClarksville, TN – Did you know 30,000 men die each year from prostate cancer? Or that 1 in 2,000 men between the ages of 40-44 and 1 in 476 men between the ages of 50-56 will develop prostate cancer? After the age of 75, 1 in 6 men will develop prostate cancer? This disease affects so many men and their families right here in Clarksville.

Prostate Cancer Support Group meets this Thursday October 22nd at 7:00pm and is for men and their families who are dealing with this disease or have questions about the disease. [Read more]

APSU nursing student earns honor in Army nursing course

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University nursing student graduated at the top of her class at the U.S. Army’s Critical Care Nursing Course at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Capt. Jessica Fetter, an Army Nursing Corp reservist in the 4203rd U.S. Army Hospital in Nashville TN, graduated from the course in August, achieving a final grade of 96 percent and earning her the distinction of Distinguished Honor Graduate. [Read more]

Local Homebuilders Association makes donation to two Memorial Scholarships at APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – When members of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Homebuilders Association learned that two scholarships were being set up at Austin Peay State University to honor the memory of two local teenagers, they overwhelmingly agreed to show their support.

Earlier this semester, after the tragic deaths of incoming APSU freshman Jack Amos and Rossview High School senior Amy Stringer, two memorial scholarships were endowed at the University. The scholarships will provide opportunities for future generations to earn college degrees at APSU.

Austin Peay State University, Motlow State sign Austin Peay Guarantee

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Leaders from Austin Peay State University and Motlow State Community College on Monday, October 17th signed a new dual admissions agreement that will allow students at Motlow State to transfer to APSU with ease.

The agreement, known as the Austin Peay Guarantee, was signed at Motlow State’s campus in Tullahoma.

“We are extremely pleased to enter into this agreement with Austin Peay so that our students can continue their educate after they earn their associate degree,” said Dr. MaryLou Apple, president of Motlow State.

New endowment, Reagan Giving Circle, honors longtime APSU marketing professor

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In the late 1960s, soon after earning her bachelor’s degree in business, Dr. Carmen Reagan began making her mark in higher education, teaching business courses at a time when opportunities for women were not as plentiful as they are today.

“The situation for women has definitely improved,” Reagan said. “There are many more opportunities for women today than when I went to college.”

After teaching in colleges and universities throughout Mississippi and at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Reagan came to Austin Peay State University in 1988 as associate professor of marketing. [Read more]

Wags to Witches Fur Ball BashClarksville, TN – The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County’s Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash is coming up October 29th. So time is running out for you to submit your pet’s photo for the Mister and Miss Wags to Witches 2011 Pet Photo Contest. The sooner your pet is entered, the sooner people can start voting for them. The deadline for photo entries is Monday, October 24th, 2011.

Top 10 Finalists will receive a free professional pet portrait photo session with Picture Your Photo Photography and Art. Your pet’s photo will be used in the 2012 Humane Society’s calendar and each finalist will receive a gift bag cram packed with goodies and a framed photo of their pet. [Read more]
