8th Annual Black History Bowl at Austin Peay State University Friday
Clarksville, TN – February is still a few weeks away, but area middle and high school students are already studying and preparing themselves for Black History Month.
That’s because on January 25th, Austin Peay State University’s Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA) club will host its Eighth Annual Black History Bowl – a scholastic competition open to teams from local schools.
Montgomery County Spelling Bee February 11th
Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Spelling Bee is February 11th at 6:00pm at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. Bee sponsors are the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville and Cumberland Bank and Trust.
Bee participants represent local public and private schools in grades 6-8. The Customs House Museum is located in Downtown Clarksville at 200 South Second Street.
APSU awarded state grant to promote health, fitness
Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a state grant awarded to Austin Peay State University, designated walking trails on campus and nutrition education sessions are in the plans to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
The Tennessee Department of Health recently awarded the Eat Well, Play More Grant, which provides $20,000 in funding, to APSU to develop a program that will help those in the area have immediate access to an environment that encourages fitness and health. [Read more]

Clarksville Montgomery County School Board Hears Presentation about New Kindergarten Start Age

2nd Annual SPAY-ghetti Dinner to be held by Clarksville Montgomery County Humane Society
Clarksville, TN – On Friday, October 7th the Clarksville Montgomery County Humane Society is holding their Spay-ghetti Dinner at First Presbyterian Church. The dinner starts at 5:00pm with the last seating at 7:00pm.
Tickets are only $10.00 for Adults and $5.00 for Kids 10 and under. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread, drink and dessert provided by George the Cake Guy. Drive-Thru Available pick up is available.
Open Enrollment in Clarksville Montgomery County School System going on now through February 25th
Montgomery County, TN – Specific grade levels in 14 elementary schools and all grades at Kenwood Middle are available for open enrollment for the Clarksville Montgomery County School 2013-14 school year.
The School System has developed a limited open enrollment policy for students who wish to attend a school or program outside the area for which they are zoned. [Read more]
Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce to hold 4th Annual Home and Garden Show February 23rd and 24th
Clarksville, TN – On February 23rd and 24th, the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the 4th Annual Home and Garden Show sponsored by Furniture Connection.
The show is an excellent opportunity to get a head start on home and garden ideas for the spring.
Austin Peay State University Extended Education to offer allied health care training courses
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education, in partnership with Boston Reed College, will offer two allied health care training programs.
The Clinical Medical Assistant Training course meets from 6:00pm-9:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 12th-June 13th. Course fee is $2,895. The class is a 16-week course that combines 134 hours of classroom instruction, including 42 hours of online training, with a 160-hour externship to provide fast-paced training designed to prepare students for a career as a clinical medical assistant. Austin Peay State University professors to publish scholarly book on zombies
Clarksville, TN – Dr. Antonio Thompson, Austin Peay State University associate professor of history, sat in his office after final exams last December, contemplating the moral implications of killing a zombie.
“If it’s caused by a virus, then theoretically it could be cured,” he said. “So what’s your legal obligation to zombies? Are they humans, monsters, animals?”
His wife, APSU associate professor of biology Dr. Amy Thompson, was more concerned with how the undead came to take over the world.
