APSU Students earn high marks for research at famed Fermilab
Clarksville, TN – Mees Fix, an Austin Peay State University physics student, thought he might be in trouble. He was outside of Chicago, analyzing white dwarf stars at Fermilab – the U.S. Department of Energy’s national laboratory – when he noticed something strange. One of the stars was giving off way too much light energy.

Celebrate APSU Homecoming with Alumni Golf Tournament and 5K Run
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Alumni Relations Office plans to welcome back graduates later this month with two special Homecoming events – the 35th Annual Homecoming Golf Tournament and the Homecoming Scholarship 5K Run.
At 8:00am on Friday, October 25th, alumni and the public are invited to participate in the golf tournament at Swan Lake Golf Course. The event, sponsored by Budweiser of Clarksville, costs $60.00 a person, and the fee includes a ditty bag, refreshments on the golf course and lunch. [Read more]
Clarksville to host 2014 Miss Tennessee USA Pageants this Week
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville will host nearly 100 young women competing in the upcoming 2014 Miss Tennessee USA and Teen USA pageants.
Both events will take place at the Austin Peay State University Music and Mass Communications Building on October 4th and 5th, 2013. This will be Clarksville’s fourteenth year hosting the pageants.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation gives Billy Dunlop Park a facelift
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, September 28th, 2013 the City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation partnered with Freudenberg Filtration Technologies of Hopkinsville, Kentucky to complete a Company Service Project at Billy Dunlop Park.
The project consisted of replacing the gravel that covers the playground with a softer wood mulch, clearing out brush near the walking bridge and painting a fence.
Clarksville Downtown Market one of Top 100 Farmers Markets in America and ranked #1 in Tennessee
Clarksville, TN – American Farmland Trust’s summer long celebration of farmers markets has ended and the Clarksville Downtown Market has been named as one of the Top 100 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets in America for 2013. The Clarksville Downtown Market was also recognized as the top three farmers markets in Tennessee.
The I Love My Farmers Market Celebration encouraged consumers to pledge to spend $10.00 at their local farmers market. Each pledge honored our nation’s hardworking farmers, our community, and the Clarksville Downtown Market. This year’s celebration helped put more than $250,000 directly into the pockets of family farmers.
APSU celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with “Migration is Beautiful” series
Clarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.
In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation kicks off the Walk with Me Tennessee Program Tuesday, October 1st
Clarksville, TN – Walk your way to health and prizes this fall and winter with the Walk with Me Tennessee Program and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department! The Walk with Me Tennessee walking program challenges Clarksvillians to walk across the state using a series of challenges featuring trails in Clarksville.

Austin Peay State University to host workshop on working with veteran students and their children
Clarksville, TN – At 6:00pm on October 8th, local educators and community members who work with veterans are invited to attend a special workshop, “Stand In Their Boots: Beyond the Battlefield,” at the Austin Peay State University Morgan University Center.
The program will feature Rebecca Townsend, a senior licensed psychological examiner and licensed professional counselor, discussing ways university and public school teachers and staff members can better serve students who are veterans or the children of active duty service members. [Read more]
Clarksville Parks and Recreations says Dive in with Discover SCUBA at the Indoor Aquatic Center
Clarksville, TN – As the Indoor Aquatic Center gears up for another indoor pool season, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to try your hand at deep sea diving, right here in Clarksville!
The first Discover SCUBA class of the indoor season will take place on Saturday, October 5th at the Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, just behind the Kleeman Community Center.
54th Annual Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade entries now being accepted
Clarksville, TN – Be a part of a Clarksville tradition by participating in this year’s annual Christmas parade, hosted by the City of Clarksville and Montgomery County Government.
The parade, a night-time, lighted Christmas parade, is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th, 2013 beginning at 5:00pm in Downtown Clarksville and will feature the Budweiser Clydesdales and the 101st Army Band.
