The economic data were generally soft, consistent with a lackluster-to-moderate pace of economic growth. The Federal Reserve’s Beige Book noted that “economic activity continued to improve since the last report,” although most Fed districts described the pace of growth as “modest.” Retail sales were much weaker than anticipated, falling by 1.2% in May, down 1.1% excluding autos. Weakness was concentrated in building materials, which could reflect the acceleration in March and April (due to the pending expiration of the homebuyer tax credit). Ex-autos, building materials and gasoline, sales edged up 0.1% following a 0.2% decline in April.

The stock market mood remained negative, with plenty of intraday volatility. However, Chinese export data suggested that the European debt crisis has not had a major impact on foreign trade. Global equity markets improved on that news and short-covering may have exaggerated the impact in the United States. The disappointing retail sales figures dampened the mood again on Friday. Bad news for drivers. Many buying at the legal limit, putting more underinsured drivers on the road

Plato’s Closet is a clothing store that appeals to teens and young women in their twenty’s. This brand name store buys and sells gently used clothing.

The newest opening is here in Clarksville at 2250 Wilma Rudolph Blvd . The store will open to sell to the public June 17th, at 10:00am. Until then they are buying items to build their inventory.

IRS seeking applications for Volunteer Tax Assistance Program Grants

Washington, DC – The Internal Revenue Service will soon begin accepting applications for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant programs, which will allow some organizations to apply for annual funding for up to three years.

Last year the IRS awarded grants totaling $165,000 to two Tennessee organizations to help them provide free tax preparation for lower-income and elderly taxpayers.

Applications will be accepted June 1st, 2010, through July 9th, 2010. Previous grant recipients will have the option to apply for up to three years of annual funding, which would reduce the amount of paperwork they must complete over a three-year period. This annual funding will also help recipients with budget planning. [Read more]

Recent Legislation offers special tax incentives for Small Businesses to provide Health Care

Washington, DC — In recognition of National Small Business Week, the Internal Revenue Service encourages small businesses to take advantage of tax-saving opportunities included in recently enacted federal legislation.

A variety of business tax deductions and credits were created, extended and expanded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), this year’s Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act and the Affordable Care Act. Clarksville Greyhound station is open for business

The Clarksville Greyhound station is back in operation from the flood. Our computers were destoyed by the water and we can only do manual tickets for cash only. All buses are arriving and departing as scheduled on a daily basis.

We would like to thank the City of Clarksville and the police department for the great help they gave us during the flood. Also thanks to all the people who brought food while we were cleaning and everyone who offered their services.

Moving is a pain, we are your pain reliever.
