Riverfest to hold First Annual Recycled Fashion Show September 8th
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, September 8th, 2012 Riverfest will hold the First Annual Recycled Fashion Show. This free event is intended to educate the general public about recycling in a fun and interactive environment. Students and adults of all ages are invited to show their created fashions made from recycled materials.
The show will start at 4:00pm on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Stage at McGregor Park.

Clarksville Civil War Roundtable’s next meeting is August 15th, 2012
The 101th Meeting
Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, June 20th at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Nonfarm payrolls rose more than expected in July, reducing fears that the economy may be headed back into recession. One shouldn’t put too much weight on any one particular month, especially July. However, the figures are consistent with the broad range of data suggesting moderate growth over the near term – not especially strong, but not terribly weak either.
At face value, the July payroll increase (+163,000) was consistent with the view that mild winter weather pulled forward seasonal gains that would have occurred in spring and early summer. Nonfarm payrolls averaged a 151,000 gain over the first seven months of 2012, vs. a 153,000 pace in 2011. «Read the rest of this article»

Clarksville, TN – The third annual Riverfest Cornhole tournament is excited to offer cash prizes for Riverfest’s 25th Anniversary! This event is intended to bring a little family friendly competition to Riverfest. Registration is limited to 30 teams.

Volunteer Positions still available for this year’s Riverfest
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is currently seeking volunteers to help with soft drink sales, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Adventure Zone children’s area as well as the Cornhole Tournament on September 7th and 8th at McGregor Park.
Volunteers may sign up for the timevslot(s) that best fit their schedule and availability at the Hands on Nashville website. The process is simple, visit www.hon.org and search “Riverfest.” Volunteers may then select the area in which they would like to volunteer and then select the timeslot occurrence that best fits their schedule.

Austin Peay State University Employees share their recent Accomplishments

Riverfest Regatta adds new plastic bottle division to race
Clarksville, TN – The Riverfest Regatta, sponsored by U.S. Bank, is not your typical boat race. The boats racing down the Cumberland River Saturday morning, September 8th, will be made of cardboard, a few other approved materials and this year, plastic bottles!
Not only will teams be racing for bragging rights, but trophies will also be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams in each division.
Competition will be in five divisions: Adult Open, Business and Industry, Church/Civic, City Department and Military.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for August 12th through August 18th
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer.

APSU Woodward Library Society sets fall event

Movies in the Park showing of “Ratatouille” rescheduled for this Saturday
Clarksville, TN – Due to inclement weather Saturday, August 4th, 2012, the Movies in the Park showing of “Ratatouille”, was cancelled. The showing has been rescheduled for this Saturday, August 11th, 2012 at the Heritage Park Soccer fields. “Ratatouille” is a 2007 computer-animated film that is rated G.
“Ratatouille” is about Remy a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant’s new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy’s family’s skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans.
