Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of achievements as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost for grants and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, recently contributed three chapters to the new scholarly book, “The A-Z of Death and Dying: Social, Medical, and Cultural Aspects,” edited by Michael Brennan. Montgomery County, TN – Dr. Mason Bellamy has been named Director of Services for Exceptional Children beginning March 17th. Dr. Bellamy has served as principal of Hazelwood Elementary School since 2012. He will replace Cara Alexander who is retiring.

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday April 5th, 2014, the Friends of Rotary Park will hold their annual Spring Fling from 10:00am until 3:00pm. Make sure you save the date and come out and enjoy a day at Rotary Park.
Friends of Rotary Park will be hosting activities for the whole family. It is open free to the public but there will be some vendors selling some awesome items, food trucks cooking up some great food and one activity you can take your aggression out on (Smash Car).

20th Annual Austin Peay Governors Bass tourney two months away

Clarksville, TN – As the final remnants of last week’s snow and ice storm melt away along with temperatures rising it is a reminder the 20th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just around the corner.
This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 10th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing, Tennessee, State Park. Last season’s tourney drew 282 boats—14 more than in 2012, despite entrants being forced to utilize the back entrance because of flooding.

Acclaimed journalist Soledad O’Brien to speak at APSU Unity event March 25th
Clarksville, TN – The award-winning broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. Her reporting on Haitian orphanages following a massive earthquake in that country earned her an Emmy, and her work for CNN during Hurricane Katrina brought her and the network a George Foster Peabody Award.
At 7:00pm on March 25th, O’Brien will speak at the Memorial Health Gym (Red Barn) on the Austin Peay State University campus as part of the annual Student Affairs Unity Celebration. O’Brien will deliver a speech titled “Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes and In Our Lives.”

Watercolourist Patsy Sharpe “Close Inspection” Exhibit at Planters Bank
Clarksville, TN – Art by local watercolourist Patsy Sharpe will be on display at the Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery from Friday, March 7th – Wednesday, April 2nd.
“My love of nature and all things natural is the basis for most of my art. I am moved tremendously by a lovely landscape or natural area. However, a favorite theme of mine is close inspection of a flower or particular area in my garden or in woodland scenes,” she explains.
