    Fort Defiance Interpretive Center to hold Civil War Recruitment Day Saturday, August 29th

    Fort Defiance Interpretive CenterClarksville, TN – Experience history in action at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center’s Civil War Recruitment Day on Saturday, August 29th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

    Come spend the day as re-enactors conduct a historical “recruiting” event. Throughout the day children can visit the Commanding Officers to enlist into either the Confederate or Union Armies, drill with the soldiers before receiving their “discharge” papers.

    Tennessee Gun Country’s Shoot for a Cause Benefits LEAP Youth

    LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – Tennessee Gun Country hosted Shoot for a Cause, a charity event for gun owners, and non-owners alike, to learn about firearms and practice on the range. The event was open to the community and held on the gun range with July 25th designated for 100% of the proceeds to be donated to the LEAP Organization.

    The donation will enable LEAP to educate their youth participants in gun safety and violence prevention.

    Executive Director Richard “Reason” Garrett had concerns regarding the community support for this type of event. “Initially I was concerned about how the community would respond to this kind of event given the recent unfortunate gun related tragedies.

    Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for August 24th through August 30th, 2015

    Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

    Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

    Some of the upcoming events include: Sights and Sounds of the Night, Port Royal Hike, The Secret World of Bats, Night Hike, Cave Hike, Insects, and Interpretive Morning Hike.

    Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, August 19th, 2015 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Medical Center. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

    The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

    Infinity Dance Fitness Academy conducts First Annual Dance Camp

    Infinity Dance Fitness AcademyClarksville, TN – The Infinity Dance Fitness Academy (IDFA) conducted its first one-week dance camp July 27th-31st, 2015 at the Emmanuel Family Life Center. The IDFA Dance Camp was fun and exciting for the campers while creating a positive and empowering environment which allowed the campers to explore the art of dance i.

    The 1st Annual IDFA Dance Camp had thirty campers ages 5-17. The campers received instruction in several disciplines of dance to include ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, belly dance and liturgical. Campers also participated in daily group sessions which focused on life skills and issues that our youth face in school and with their peers to include Gang Violence; Bullying; Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco prevention; Nutrition and Obesity; and Goal setting.

    APSU students present Veterans Treatment Court with unique Goldsmith Press creation

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – “I know I have a long ways to go and a lot to learn, but the help is definitely here.”

    When the United States and its allies need help, our soldiers answer the call. But when those same men and women need a hand, programs like the Montgomery County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) exist to make sure they are not alone.

    Established in 2012, the court aims to help veterans who come to the criminal justice system as a result of drug addictions, homelessness and other situations brought on by wartime stress.

    Enterprise donation supports APSU career fair

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Enterprise Holdings Foundation continued its support of Austin Peay State University earlier this summer with a $3,000 donation.

    The Enterprise Holdings Foundation has made an annual donation to support The Govs Connection career networking event and internship fair, held every winter on the APSU campus.
