    Clarksville’s Riverfest to feature “Nashville” star Charles Esten

    Clarksville's Riverfest CelebrationClarksville, TN – Riverfest, presented by the City of Clarksville and Miller Lite, is pleased to announce Charles Esten of television’s hit series “Nashville” will be the featured headliner at the 2015 Festival. Charles Esten will take the main stage as the headlining event on Saturday, September 12th, 2015 at 9:00pm. The concert is free and open to the public.

    Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Charles “Chip” Esten was raised in Alexandria, VA and attended T.C. Williams High School, made famous in the film “Remember the Titans.”

    Amber Wallace Displays Mixed Media Americana at Planters Bank in September

    Planters BankClarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature mixed media art by Amber Wallace from Thursday, September 3rd – Wednesday, September 30th.

    Amber Wallace is an artist that likes to pay homage to the past. Her work is often executed on recycled/upcycled materials such as barn wood, vintage doors and windows, abandoned drawers and cutting boards, etc. By repurposing these materials, they are given a new life and new story, thus preserving a little piece of what came before us. Her work incorporates lots of color and texture, and she draws inspiration from nature, history, and from her little girl Posey.

    Riverfest to feature “Earth Explorers” Kids’ Area

    Clarksville's Riverfest CelebrationClarksville, TN – The Kids’ Area at Riverfest is the perfect place to bring kids of all ages. They’ll enjoy interactive games and exhibits, hands-on learning activities, and some giant inflatables! Everyone is sure to love the new 2015 theme: “Earth Explorers” as they explore over 20 different local vendors and cultural groups.

    The Riverfest Kids’ Area is located at the North Extension of McGregor Park (behind O’Charleys) and is open Friday, September 11th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, September 12th from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Performances will take place every hour on Saturday.

    Austin Peay State University ROTC cadet carries Special Olympics Torch

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this summer, Jose Ramos-Lopez, a senior cadet in Austin Peay State University’s ROTC program, found himself running with police officers through the streets of Freehold Borough, New Jersey.

    Ramos-Lopez was in the northern state to participate in a Cadet Leadership Course, and he was asked to carry the Special Olympics New Jersey torch during the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raises money for the Special Olympics.

    Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Do you like fishing? Are you interested in aquatic environments? Clarksville Parks and Recreation has once again teamed up with the National Fishing in Schools Program to offer a class in basic fly fishing!

    Class will be held at the Crow Community Center on Thursdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, September 3rd through September 24th, and is open to grades 6-12.

    Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Throughout her career, Austin Peay State University professor of music, Dr. Sharon Mabry, has championed the music of contemporary composers. Her latest release, “Modern American Art Song,” continues that theme, focusing on five sets of songs by four contemporary American composers.

    Mabry’s album features works by Kenton Coe, Brian Peterson, Persis Behar and George Mabry, with several of the works written specifically for Mabry and this release.

    Call for Artwork Submissions for 2016 Clarksville Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

    Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the eighth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.

    Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.

    Deadline for Clarksville’s Riverfest Regatta registration is Friday, September 4th

    Clarksville's Riverfest CelebrationClarksville, TN – The registration deadline for the Ninth Annual Riverfest Regatta is right around the corner! Participants can enter as an individual or as a team for a chance to win awards!

    This boat race is not like any ordinary boat race. Participants will compete in their boats made of cardboard, plastic bottles, or a few other approved materials. There will be several divisions all racing down the 100-yard long course on the Cumberland River.
