    UPS Delivers Workforce Development Programming to LEAP Students

    LEAP OrganizationNashville, TN – UPS collaborates with the LEAP Organization to educate students on job seeking strategies, best practices to retain employment and receive promotions, and the benefits associated with employment opportunities with UPS.

    The goal of LEAP’s Career Readiness Program is to provide youth ages 16 to 24 with critical job skills to prepare them for entry into the workforce. Members of UPS Human Resources Department educated the students on the UPS mission and history then guided them on a tour on their warehouse facility to explain the various positions within the company.

    UPS works with LEAP’s Career Readiness Program to help students learn about job opportunities.

    World Première of “Different Bodies,” based on the life of Joseph Merrick

    Gateway Chamber OrchestraClarksville, TNGateway Chamber Orchestra proudly presents Enchanting Tales, 4:00pm, February 7th, 2016, in Mabry Concert Hall, located at Austin Peay State University. The Sunday afternoon concert spotlights award-winning composer Jeffrey Wood’s world premiere of Different Bodies.

    The performance opens with Rossini’s charming Il signor Bruschino Overture, taking the audience through a full spectrum of contrasting musical fables and emotional tales, concluding with Maurice Ravel’s popular Mother Goose, a magical work that tells the story of Sleeping Beauty and other fairy tales.

    Scorching Musical Revue “Blues in the Night” Heats Up the Roxy Regional Theatre, February 5th-20th

    Clarskville's Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – This February, the universal language of the blues will wail out full and strong on the corner of Franklin and First in downtown Clarksville. The scorching Tony-nominated musical revue “Blues in the Night” opens at the Roxy Regional Theatre on Friday, February 5th, at 8:00pm.

    In keeping with the theatre’s traditional pay-what-you-can preview, all tickets not pre-sold at the regular ticket price will go on sale at 7:30pm that evening for a $5.00 minimum donation.

    APSU purchases adjacent, 10-acre Jenkins and Wynne property

    Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University, which turns 90 next year, recently experienced a late growth spurt. Earlier this week, the campus grew by about 10 acres when the school finally closed on property previously owned by the Jenkins and Wynne auto dealership.

    The $8.8 million purchase marks one of the largest expansions in the University’s history, and it now connects the 182-acre College Street campus with downtown Clarksville.

    Samiezadé-Yazd will be on campus to give a brief introduction into the world of Arabic calligraphy, graffiti writing, street art and urban culture, and the artists, graffiti writers and typographers who keep the tradition alive.

    APSU students perform service work in Louisiana and Florida over winter break

    Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – Earlier this month, two groups of Austin Peay State University students spent a week volunteering on Alternative Break Trips. Collectively, the students completed more than 400 hours of community service.

    From January 9th-14th, eight students and a staff member traveled to Lacombe, Louisiana, to spend a week volunteering with the Giving Hope Retreat, a partnership organization with the New Orleans Rescue Mission.

    Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage to hold Valentine’s arts event with Chocolate, Champagne, and Chamber Music February 14th

    Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – Clarksvillians can buy Valentine’s gifts from local artists, sample champagne and heart-healthy chocolates from local caterers, and enjoy chamber music by local musicians at the seventh annual Valentine’s Day Afternoon with the Arts, Sunday, February 14th, 2016.

    The Clarksville/Montgomery County Arts & Heritage Development Council and F&M Bank are hosting this event from 1:00pm until 4:00pm in F&M Bank’s Franklin Room, with its spectacular views of downtown and the Cumberland River.

    At last year’s Valentine’s Afternoon with the Arts, Jo Jenkins looked over bowls with woodcarver Terry Ellis. This year’s event, hosted by the Clarksville/Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council and F&M Bank, will be Sunday, February 14th, in the bank’s Franklin Room.
