Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – One of the missions of Austin Peay State University’s Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement is to keep things local.

From its S.O.S. Food Pantry that takes donations and makes them available for needy students to its Victory Gardens and egg-producing chickens that generate fresh food, the Center has a keen interest in taking care of its own.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Next month, Austin Peay State University’s The New Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art + Design, will present the Faculty Triennial, an exhibition celebrating the artwork of current Art + Design faculty.

This year has brought many celebrations to the Department of Art + Design. In August, the new Art + Design building opened its doors to students with new studio classrooms and new exhibition spaces.

Austin Peay State University senior physics major Joshua Allen briefly understood that feeling when he began his summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Princeton University, but any fears he may have internalized quickly vanished when he began work at the Ivy League institution’s Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM).

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation recently sent out a call to all local swim fans with a sense of adventure, the announcement of its annual Haunted Swim at New Providence Swimming Pool on Saturday, October 21st, 2017.

“When the daylight leaves, the ghouls and goblins will come out for a haunted evening swim,” the message read. “There will be frightful lifeguards, swimming, music and a light show.”

More than 150 swimmers took part in Clarksville Parks and Recreation fourth annual Haunted Swim Saturday evening.

Friends of the Library Fall Used Book Sale begins Thursday

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Friends of the Library Fall Used Book Sale begins this Thursday, October 26th at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library.

The opening night will be a Friends-only preview from 4:00pm–7:00pm. Anyone may join the Friends of the Library for $5.00 at the door. The book sale will be open to the public on Friday, October 27th from 9:00am–5:00pm and Saturday, October 28th from 9:00am–2:00pm.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation held its annual Floating Pumpkin Patch at New Providence Swimming Pool Saturday, October 21st, 2017.

They advertise the event with a question, “Tired of searching those dusty fields for your perfect pumpkin?” The event offers kids a chance to hunt for their pumpkin as it floats in a pool. Then, once they have found “the one”, they can go over to the decorating table and customize it with their unique finishing touches.

Clarksville’s Go Commando Half Marathon sees Large Turnout

Clarksville's Go Commando Half MarathonClarksville, TN – The 7th Annual Go Commando Half Marathon & 5K drew more runners than last year, with almost 1,100 participants for the main events, the Kids Fun Run and the Shadow Run this past Saturday, October 21st, 2017.

This year also featured a Guinness World Record being set by Kalea Lehman who finished the half marathon in 1:51:12 while pushing a triple stroller.

After three centuries, a trio of witches (played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night — and it is up to two teenagers, a young girl and an immortal cat to put an end to their reign of terror once and for all.
