Batson Nolan PLC Achieves Green Certification
Montgomery County, TN – Batson Nolan PLC is the first law firm in Clarksville to celebrate becoming Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.
City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, Montgomery County Chief of Staff Jeff Truitt and Chamber of Commerce President Melinda Shepherd were there to congratulate the staff of Batson and Nolan.
Rivers and Spires’ Quilts of the Cumberland winners for 2016
Clarksville, TN – Rivers and Spires held their annual Quilts of the Cumberland Quilt show on April 14th-16th at the Madison Street United Methodist Church. The show displayed a variety of quilts from traditional to one of a kind art quilts by local artists. The event was free and open to the public.
The quilts showed just how talented artists are in the area. They were simply beautiful. The event had juried exhibitions and non-juried exhibitions as well.

Clarksville, TN – The economic data remained consistent with a lackluster to moderate pace of growth in the near term. Building permits and housing starts disappointed in March, reflecting a pullback in multi-family activity (which appears to have been unsustainably strong in 2015).
Single-family permits, the key figure in the report, fell 1.2%, but the first quarter total was 15.2% higher than in 1Q15. Existing home sales rebounded from a soft February (likely reflecting weather effects in the Northeast and Midwest). The Index of Leading Economic Indicators rose 0.2%, following three consecutive monthly declines.

Austin Peay Opera Theatre and Orchestra to hold “This is the Rill Speaking” and “A Hand of Bridge” on April 23th-24th
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Opera Theatre and Orchestra will take playgoers on a nostalgic trip through a bygone era in America with its productions of Lee Hoiby’s “This is the Rill Speaking” and Samuel Barber’s “A Hand of Bridge.”
The opera opens at 7:30pm on Saturday, April 23rd, with a matinee performance at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 24th, in the Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall. The show is free and open to the public.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park begins it’s 11th Season May 7th
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation announces Movies in the Park, the city’s free, outdoor movie series, will celebrate its 11th season as it kicks off on Saturday, May 7th with the showing of Independence Day (PG-13)!
The season begins with the first two showings at Heritage Park, located at 1241 Peachers Mill Road, and followed by the next two showings at a new location – McGregor Park!

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is hosting a cleanup at Robert Clark Park, located at 1449 Tiny Town Road, on Sunday, April 24th from 8:00am to 10:00am.

Clarksville, TN – The economic data were mixed, but mostly on the soft side of expectations. Retail sales fell in March, reflecting a pullback in auto sales (dealers noted lean inventories of popular models and a lack of dealer incentives). Ex-autos, gasoline and building materials, sales were flat (+3.2% y/y), but February was revised higher (making it about a wash relative to expectations).
Industrial production fell 0.6% in March, reflecting warm temperatures (another drop in the output of utilities) and a further contraction in oil and gas well drilling (down 72% since the end of 2014).
Rivers and Spires Festival Sets New Attendance Record
Clarksville, TN – The 2016 Rivers and Spires Festival shattered previous attendance records, bringing over 49,000 people into downtown Clarksville over the April 14th-16th weekend. This year’s event was the largest Rivers and Spires to date with the 2010 Festival previously holding the record at 42,073 when the Charlie Daniels Band performed.
“The Festival definitely did what it was supposed to do; bring people downtown, promote the community and offer free family entertainment for all ages. We are very pleased with how the event went this year,” said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of Visit Clarksville.
APSU professor Tamara Smithers publishes academic book on Italian Renaissance painter Michelangelo
Clarksville, TN – Everyone has a reason for why they do what they do, and for Dr. Tamara Smithers, associate professor of art history at Austin Peay State University, the reason she has devoted her passion to the study of art history is the work of Italian Renaissance sculptor and painter Michelangelo.
“To speak candidly, I’ve been obsessed with Michelangelo – his artwork, his life and his legend – ever since I can remember,” Smithers said.
