Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library “Food for Fines” to Benefit Loaves and Fishes

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is excited to announce the Food for Fines food drive program that will allow library customers to exchange canned goods and other select foods for library overdue fines.

Food for Fines benefits Loaves and Fishes and will be held December 7th-18th, 2015 at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library. This is the second Food for Fines event this year following the success of the first Food for Fines campaign held by the library in May.

According to Annie Herlocker, Assistant Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, “The success of our first Food for Fines campaign has allowed us to make this a regular program that we hope to repeat twice per year. We donated 882 pounds of food in May from waived fines donations and hope to go above that number this month. This is a very timely way to help clear some of your fines and give back to the community.”

Library card holders may have $1.00 of eligible fines waived for each of the following items brought in during the drive: canned soups, canned beans, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats, peanut butter, mac and cheese, boxed meals, and full-size boxes of cereal. No glass items accepted. Fine waives will not apply to lost items. Expired or opened packages will not be accepted. A maximum of $30.00 in fines will be eligible for waiving.

In order to help Loaves and Fishes and the Clarksville-Montgomery County community, the public may bring in items even if they have no fines, however credit will not be applied to library accounts for future fines.
