Fort Defiance Interpretive Center’s Surrender of Clarksville event has been cancelled
Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center’s living history event to commemorate the 153rd anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville has been cancelled.
The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 21st at 10:00am will not be rescheduled.
Joan Didion’s Powerful Memoir of Love and Loss, “The Year of Magical Thinking”, at the Roxy Regional Theatre’s theotherspace, February 23rd – March 3rd
Clarksville, TN – “Life changes fast. Life changes in the instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.” Those were the first words written by author Joan Didion after the sudden death of her husband of nearly four decades.
Didion’s powerful memoir of love and loss, “The Year of Magical Thinking”, will unfold upon the stage of the Roxy Regional Theatre’s theotherspace for four evenings, February 23rd – March 3rd.
Registration is now open for the 37th Annual Queen City Road Race
Clarksville, TN – It’s that time of year again to lace up those running shoes and begin preparing for the 37th Annual Queen City Road Race scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, 2015.
The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 7K and 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning at Austin Peay State University’s Foy Center and ending inside the new Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus.
For over thirty years, hundreds of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell school students, teachers and family members have participated in this Clarksville tradition.
2015 Clarksville Downtown Market Vendor applications are now available
Clarksville, TN – Do you want to sell your homegrown or homemade items this summer? The Clarksville Parks and Recreation is now accepting applications for 2015 Downtown Market vendors!
Applications are available online at www.cityofclarksville.com/downtownmarket and must be submitted no later than April 3rd. Potential vendors may complete the form online or download a printable version to be submitted to 102 Public Square.
Austin Peay State University’s Trahern Gallery 108 to present “I am Halftone” solo exhibition by Cynthia Sukowatey
Clarksville, TN – Local artist Cynthia Sukowatey will be displaying her silkscreen prints in the show “I am Halftone” at APSU’s Trahern Gallery 108 from March 2nd-5th, 2015 between 10:00am-5:00pm.
The opening reception is free to the public and takes place on Monday, March 2nd from 5:00pm-8:00pm.
Acuff Circle of Excellence to honor Joe W. Giles with Ovation Award
Clarksville, TN – Joe W. Giles, an Austin Peay State University alumnus and founder of the Tennessee Arts Academy, the nation’s flagship professional development program for teachers of the arts, will be honored March 1st with the George Mabry Ovation Award.
The award is one of eight to be given by the Acuff Circle of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contributions in the arts to the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. The annual ceremony will be Sunday, March 1st, from 2:00pm-3:30pm at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and a reception that follows. Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for February 18th through February 22nd, 2015
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.
Some of the upcoming events include: River bottom Trail at Port Royal, Short Loop Trail Hike, Port Royal History Walk, Winter Woods Walk, Volunteer Day – Tree Planting, and Dunbar’s History.

Clarksville Weekly Market Snapshot from Frazier Allen for the week of February 15th, 2015
Clarksville, TN – As expected, U.S. financial market participants kept a close eye on developments in Europe. A fragile ceasefire agreement was reached in Ukraine (but we’ve seen that before). Negotiations to reduce austerity in Greece and restructure the country’s debt broke down without making much progress, but the two sides agreed to try again next week.
Retails sales were softer than expected in January and consumer sentiment fell unexpectedly in the mid-February assessment, leading to some concerns about the strength of consumer spending, but also fueling expectations that the Fed will delay its initial increase in short-term interest rates. Unadjusted core retail sales fell 24.9%, the same decline as in January 2014.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office hold Community Meeting at Olivet Free Will Baptist Church
Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson and several of his staff came together Thursday night to inform citizens gathered at Olivet Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Chris Camp began the meeting by thanking the Sheriff and the MCSO for all they do.
“Anytime I go to something (the Sheriff) is always there,” Camp said, adding that he and his staff go “above and beyond” for the community.
