Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On a Wednesday morning in April, Kentucky journalist and author Carol Niswonger was busy combing through the archives at Austin Peay State University’s Woodward Library, conducting research for her new book on Land Between The Lakes, when she discovered something a bit unusual. Tucked away in a thin, manila folder was a short, hand-written poem titled “The Land Between the Rivers.”

“When I started to read it, I said, ‘that’s it perfectly,’” Niswonger said. “The poem, it epitomized the feelings of that area. It had such an emotional attachment to the land and the surroundings. I thought the poet was someone who lived there.”

Fabric Outlet is open and ready to serve your needs

By | May 22, 2012 | Print This Post

Clarksville, TN – “I’m so glad that you did not close!” is a common exclamation these days as customers arrive at Fabric Outlet, the not-to-be-missed purple building at 211 Holiday Drive in Clarksville. Current owners Rose Pollard and Joyce Turner rescued the business when the former owners decided they wanted to sell.

The announcement that “We’re going out of business!” was greeted by one customer with “But what will Clarksville do? What will the nation do!” as she couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to buy upholstery and drapery fabrics locally. When Rose and Joyce considered that alternative, they decided the only answer was to keep Fabric Outlet open and improve its offerings.

The economic data were mixed, but mostly on the soft side of expectations. Retail sales were a bit weaker than expected in April. Industrial production improved, but partly reflected a surge in the output of utilities (more normal weather). Residential construction figures showed a moderate trend of improvement (from very low levels) in single-family homebuilding.

The minutes of the April 24th-25th monetary policy meeting showed that Fed officials were worried about the downside risks to growth from Europe and the potential for significantly tighter fiscal policy in the U.S. Fed officials were open to doing more (QE3), but only if the economic recovery were to lose momentum or downside risks intensified.

Greece was unable to form a coalition to run the government and so will have another set of elections on June 17th. [Read more]
