Clarksville Downtown Market to Open May 19th
Clarksville, TN – When the 2012 Clarksville Downtown Market opens on Saturday, May 19th, approximately 60 vendors will be on hand to offer local fresh produce, baked goods, home décor, seasonal flowers and more. The market will also feature local artists and musicians.
The Clarksville Downtown Market will be open from 8:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through October 19th on Public Square.
For two years in a row, Clarksville’s Downtown Market, has been voted No. 1 in the state of Tennessee, in America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest, which was hosted by American Farmland Trust. [Read more]
Military and veteran graduate recognition coin ceremony May 2nd for Austin Peay State University Spring Graduates
Clarksville, TN – Active duty and military veteran students who will graduate from Austin Peay State University next week will receive APSU’s new military coin.
The military and veteran graduate recognition and coin presentation ceremony, with the theme “All Hail to Those Who Serve,” is scheduled for 5:00pm, Wednesday, May 2md in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The event is open to the public.

Billy Dunlop Park will be closed to the public, Tuesday, May 1st for a Police training class. The park will reopen at dawn the following day.

Clarksville, TN – According to the Organic Consumers Association, a 1,000 acre U.S. corporate farm growing genetically engineered crops nets an average of $39.00 an acre. In contrast, a 4-acre family farm nets, on average, $1400 per acre. Small organic farms are proving to be even more profitable. Why? Because they are meeting the needs of a niche market and can charge a little more, they aren’t as reliant on oil, because they use fewer large machines, less pesticides and fertilizer. [Read more]
Anheuser-Busch recognizes Budweiser of Clarksville and Budweiser of Hopkinsville as Ambassadors of Excellence
Clarksville, TN – Budweiser of Clarksville, a beverage distributorship and the corporate hub of Hand Family Companies, and Budweiser of Hopkinsville (KY), also a Hand Family Companies property, were recognized as “Ambassadors of Excellence” by Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company for their 2011 performance.
Only 20 of the more than 700 Anheuser-Busch wholesalers in the nation were selected for the award, and the Clarksville facility placed fourth.
Hand Family Companies learned of the awards in February and the two facilities were recognized during the Ambassadors of Excellence Top Performers meeting held April 12th-15th in Monterey, California. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University Nursing School repeats success of 100% pass rate on NCLEX licensure test
Clarksville, TN – For the third time in the last three years, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing recorded a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX licensure testing last winter, surpassing the national average pass rate of 91 percent.
A total of 39 graduates from the Class of 2011 in December took the NCLEX for the first time and passed. The national average of 91 percent represents those who took the test January-March 2012. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University honors exemplary professors during Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony
Clarksville, TN – On Tuesday afternoon, Austin Peay State University recognized five professors with the highest distinctions awarded to faculty members during the University’s annual Honors and Awards Ceremony.
Dr. Mary Lou Witherspoon, professor of mathematics, was named the recipient of the 2012 APSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award. Clarksville, TN – The Summer Youth Program is a six-week day camp-type program that is offered each summer to youths, ages 6-16.
