Schedule of Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling Released
Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have finalized the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling slated to take place rain or shine on Saturday, May 5th.
Come out and enjoy a day of free, family fun. A bird hikes with the Warioto Audubon Society, wild flower hike led by APSU botanists and a trail hike led by Suva Batsin from our local chapter of the Tennessee trails Association.
APSU School of Nursing a partner with local center in diabetes management
Austin Peay State University Nursing Program
Clarksville, TN – With the help of a national competitive grant, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing is partnering with the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center to provide a diabetes management program for low-income adults.
APSU’s nursing students, as part of requirements in the Community Health course, will work with patients at Matthew Walker’s local health center on Dover Road. Specifically, they will be at the center twice a week, educating patients on disease management. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The 3rd annual BBQ Cook Off at Hilltop Super Market will be May 11th and 12th, 2012. There will be cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishing teams as well as trophy prizes.
Team sign ups are going on now through May 3rd. The Categories this year include ribs, chicken, pork and brisket. The pork and brisket categories have been added this year.
Austin Peay State University hosts Arts and Music program May 1st for local youngsters
Clarksville, TN – On Tuesdays throughout the spring, a group of eager youngsters and their parents have crowded into the Children’s Library of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library for an afternoon of free creative arts activities.
They were taking advantage of the new Children’s Arts Interaction Program, hosted by Austin Peay State University music and art faculty members and students. The program, which is open to all preschool and early elementary aged children, comes to an end this Tuesday, May 1st, at 4:30pm. [Read more]

APSU’s 18th annual Governors Bass Tournament just two weeks away

Clarksville, TN – The 18th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is less than two weeks from dropping anchor.
The 2012 edition will be held Saturday, May 12th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing, Tennessee, State Park. Last season’s tourney was postponed one week due to high waters and flooding that enveloped the area. Despite the delay, the tourney still drew 243 boats.
Friends of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library Book Sale Full of Bargains
Clarksville, TN – If you are a reader and haven’t discovered the Friends of the Library Book Sale, you don’t know what you’re missing. Imagine hundreds of books at bargain prices all in one room and you have a hint at what goes on.
The sale is held twice a year—and last Saturday was the Spring sale. It takes place at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library (350 Pageant Lane) in a trio of rooms just to the right of the entry to the library door.

As expected, the Federal Open Market Committee left short-term interest rates unchanged and refrained from additional asset purchases. The Fed still expects that “economic conditions – including low rates of resource utilization and a subdued outlook for inflation over the medium run – are likely to warrant exceptionally low levels for the federal funds rate at least through late 2014.”However, officials were still divided on when they thought it would be appropriate to start tightening. Officials revised higher their projections for 2012 GDP growth, but slightly lower their growth expectations for 2013 and 2014.
Real GDP rose at a 2.2% annual rate in the advance estimate for 1Q12, below the +2.5% median forecast. The details were a mixed bag. Consumer spending rose at a 2.9% annual rate, led by a sharp increase in motor vehicles. Business fixed investment fell at a 2.1% pace (structures down 12.0%, equipment and software up 1.7%).
