Improvement in Graduations best among Tennessee Universities
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University continues to move toward the 11,000-student mark. Figures for the Fall 2011 semester show a record enrollment of 10,873 students at APSU.
But APSU has more reason to celebrate. Not only is enrollment increasing, but APSU also is graduating more students than ever.
While growth in student enrollment is vital for any postsecondary institution, APSU, like other public institutions in Tennessee, is being assessed by retention and graduation performance. [Read more]
Copeland Nominated to the 2011 Music City Bowl Committee
Clarksville, TN – Rob Copeland, President and CEO of Copeland Wealth Management, headquartered in Clarksville, Tennessee has been nominated to be on the 2011 Music City Bowl Committee.
“It is an honor to be a part of such a wonderful event, the Music City Bowl is a great way to support Middle Tennessee, our citizens, and bring a positive impact to our local economy,” said Rob Copeland.
Each year the Music City Bowl brings an average of $14.2 million dollars in to the Middle Tennessee area, bringing more than 35,000 out-of-town visitors. The 2011 Music City Bowl will be held on December 30th, 2011 in Nashville Tennessee.

Austin Peay State University to celebrate 40-year anniversary of the ROTC
Clarksville, TN – In 1971, the U.S. Army established at Austin Peay State University the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) for recruiting, training and commissioning future Army officers.
In the 40 years since, hundreds of cadets have been commissioned at APSU as second lieutenants in the Army. The program also has earned the reputation as one of the nation’s finest, having won several awards for training and management performance standards. The Lighting of Christmas on the Cumberland Signals the Start of the 2011 Holiday Season
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville kicked off the 13th Annual Christmas on the Cumberland last night, which continues until January 1st. The annual free holiday display features over 1,000,000 individual Lights in a amazing Christmas display that spans the entire length of McGregor Park in Downtown Clarksville.

Austin Peay State University Library creates digital collection of student newspapers dating back to 1930
Clarksville, TN – What was the first day of basketball practice like for the Lady Govs way back in the fall of 1930? According to the November 26th edition of The All State, the student-run newspaper of Austin Peay Normal School, from that year, “Coach Jackson has started the old basketball grind with only a few of the 1929 squad back as candidates for their old positions on the team.”

Indoor Aquatic Center offers fun during Holiday Breaks
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites kids and parents to enjoy the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, during the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s holiday breaks!
This Wednesday, November 23rd, the indoor swimming facility will be having its weekly “Wibit Wednesday” featuring “The Aqua Run” floating obstacle course. Cost of admission is just $3.00 per person, plus a $2.00 wristband for all day Wibit access.

The economic data reports were mostly stronger than expected, consistent with moderate growth in the near term. Retail sales rose more than the consensus forecast in October. Industrial production picked up, partly reflecting an increase in mining, but automobile production improved. Residential construction numbers were mixed, but suggested a modest uptrend in single-family activity (still at very low levels). As expected, the October inflation reports reflected lower energy prices. Core inflation was mild.
Tensions continued to heat up in Europe, with increased calls for the European Central Bank to step in as the lender of last resort. However, the ECB continues to reject that role. Borrowing costs for Italy, Spain, and France rose, but fell back a bit at the end of the week, as Greece and Italy made some progress in addressing their budget situations. [Read more]
