Registration open for Contestants to participate in the 2012 Miss Tennessee USA and Teen USA Pageants
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville will host the 2012 Miss Tennessee USA and Miss Tennessee Teen USA Pageants at the Austin Peay State University Music and Mass Communications Building Concert Hall on October 7th through 8th, 2011.
Pageant officials have announced that applications are being accepted from young women throughout the state who would like to compete in this year’s Miss Tennessee USA and Teen USA Pageants. Applications for the pageant can be found on www.misstennesseeusa.com under the “Apply Now” section.

Collin Raye to headline Riverfest 2011
Clarksville, TN – Join the City of Clarksville and Bud Light along the banks of the Cumberland River as they celebrate Clarksville’s river heritage at the 24th annual Riverfest Celebration, September 9th and 10th, 2011. This free, two day music and arts festival features four stages of a variety of local, regional and nationally-known entertainers, delicious food, and fun for the entire family.
The music kicks off at 5:00pm, Friday, with a great lineup of Christian performers on the Mary’s the Music Store Stage to include Britt Nicole who will perform at 9:00pm. Ekoh, Black Market Research and UZoo – The Authentic U2 Tribute Band Experience will take to the Bud Light Stage on Friday night, followed by the ultimate Journey tribute band, Chain Reaction.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area Programs for August 11th through August 17th
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer.

APSU creates new Mobile Technology Center for App Development
Clarksville, TN – Since fall of 2010, Austin Peay State University has made strides in mobile technology development.
Last August, APSU released its iPhone app for faculty and students. Months later, that app was reincarnated for the Android. Then in the Spring 2011 semester, the University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was one of the first computer departments in Tennessee to offer a mobile software development class.
On top of those developments, the APSU Geographic Information System (GIS) Center began creating the Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Kit (DMARK) to enable emergency responders to record damage assessments on their cell phones. [Read more]
Swan Lake City Golf Course to Reopen August 24th
Clarksville, TN – Swan Lake Golf Course will reopen to the public on August 24th, following the replacement of the course’s greens.
The municipal golf course closed on June 20th, and a Texas company began installing Championship Bermuda grass on the greens. The new grass is more heat tolerant and is widely used across the southern U.S. [Read more]
Half Marathon to offer Physically Impaired Divisions
Montgomery County, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband will feature two new race divisions. A physically impaired division and a wheelchair division will be offered in both the half marathon and 5k. This will be the first time both divisions are offered in a half marathon in Clarksville.
These physically impaired divisions will allow disabled athletes to compete along the same route as other half marathon and 5k divisions. Both will offer awards to all participants as well as Top Finisher awards overall and in age groups. Participants are required to register through paper registration for both divisions to ensure proper placement. [Read more]

America’s favorite park will win $100,000
Vote for Heritage Park
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is asking park-goers to vote for their favorite parks. Heritage Park is in the running for a $100,000 prize, but it needs votes, lots of votes!
Parks that receive the most votes will receive grants as part of Coca-Cola’s “America Is Your Park” national campaign to restore, rebuild or enhance our parks. [Read more]

A Benefit Concert for the Montgomery Central High School Marching Band
Cunningham, TN – The Indian Nation Band Boosters are hosting the Inaugural “Rock the Reservation” benefit concert, Friday August 12th, for the Montgomery Central High School Marching Band. Four local bands who each have MCHS alumni as members will be featured. The concert starts at 6:00pm and will be over by 10:00pm.
Ticket sales begin at 5:00pm with entrance to the gym at 5:45pm. Tickets will be sold at the door at the low cost of $5.00 (children under 5 years of age are “free”).

Leaders in Washington reached an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, averting a self-inflicted financial disaster. However, with the debt ceiling nonsense out of the way, investors were free to focus on the U.S. economic recovery and Europe’s debt crisis – and the outlook doesn’t look so hot. The U.S. economy has slowed and the downside risks to the growth outlook have increased. Although it still appears that the U.S. is likely to avoid a recession, the odds have increased. The European debt crisis appears to be enveloping Spain and Italy, which will be much bigger problems for the big banks in Europe. Stocks fell broadly around the world.
The July Employment report was consistent with the broad range of economic data releases of the last few weeks, suggesting a subpar economic recovery, but not a recession. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 117,000 – well above the +85,000 consensus forecast and, more importantly, not as bad as feared. The unemployment rate edged down to 9.1%, but would have risen if not for people exiting the labor force. After digesting the report, the stock market gave up gains made in an initial (positive) reaction to the report. Bonds yields fell. The dollar was mixed following efforts by the Swiss and the Japanese to weaken their currencies. [Read more]
