Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The Joe Snow Memorial Bass Tournament, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 30th, has been postponed due to the weather.

It is rescheduled for Saturday, May 21st at Dyers Creek in Dover, TN. Other than the date and location change, all other event specifics will remain the same. [Read more]

CMCSS Announces Elementary Principal Appointments

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Two new principals have been selected to fill the open positions at Byrns Darden and Burt Elementary Schools for the 2011-12 school year.

Diana Hara, currently assistant principal at Hazelwood Elementary, will be principal at Burt Elementary, replacing Irene Gudgeon who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Andy Lyons, currently assistant principal at Barkers Mill Elementary, will serve as principal at Byrns Darden Elementary. He replaces Michelle Rayle, who has been named as assistant principal at Northeast and Rossview High Schools. [Read more]

APSU Presidential Research Scholars Program announces students for 2011-12

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Ten undergraduate students at Austin Peay State University have been chosen for the 2011-12 Presidential Research Scholars Program.

Students in the program were selected for the May 1st, 2011, to April 30th, 2012, award period. The Research Scholars Program works to promote independent research training and creative activity with scholarly merit and supports the incorporation of research training into the collegiate educational experience. The six winning youngsters between the ages of 7 and 14 will advance from the local competition to the Sectional Competition in Chattanooga on May 22nd. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Student Affairs at Austin Peay State University honored leadership and service by individual students, student organizations and faculty and staff at its Student Organization and Leader Awards Program held April 13th.

The annual program’s focus is recognizing students, student organizations, faculty and staff who have made an impact throughout the year, Student Affairs Programs Director Tammy Bryant said.

Seniors Kenneth Kennedy (left), of Clarksville, and Paige Rasmussen, of McKenzie, were named Mister and Madam Governor. The Mister Governor and Madam Governor Awards, presented by APSU Provost Dr. Tristan Denley, honor graduating students who have contributed to the University community through leadership, diversity and service and have participated in leadership roles on campus while maintaining high academic standards. LEAP Skate Night

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – The LEAP Organization is hosting a Skate Night at Magic Wheels on Thursday, May 19th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm to raise funds so that At-Risk Youth can participate in a Community Wide Youth trip to Washington, D.C.

The purpose of this trip is to provide our youth with an opportunity to journey through our past and see history in the making through an historical and relevant tour of the Capitol.

APSU Area of Dance Recognized at National Dance Festival

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the last few weeks, whenever Austin Peay State University assistant professor of dance Marcus Hayes turns on his computer in the morning, he finds several emails waiting in his inbox with the subject line, “ACDFA.”

The acronym stands for “The American College Dance Festival Association,” and the emails are from those who attended this year’s central region competition at Wichita State University in Kansas and were mesmerized by the works the APSU Area of Dance performed.

The Roxy Regional Theatre recognizes the Civil War Sesquicentennial with the Civil War Musical

Clarksville, TN – In recognition of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, the Roxy Regional Theatre is currently staging a production of the Frank Wildhorn and Gregory Boyd musical, The Civil War. This has to be one of the best of the many shows I have seen at the Roxy Regional Theatre.

Drawing on letters, diaries, firsthand accounts, and the words of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and Walt Whitman, the musical covers the enormous emotional landscape of the most difficult test our nation has ever endured. The Civil War musical puts a human face on the greatest tragedy of American history and passionately asks us to consider our beliefs about freedom, honor and faith.

State of the Art Facility Being Created by Jostens, Bringing Additional Jobs to Clarksville

Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development CouncilClarksville, TN – Minneapolis-based memory book and scholastic products corporation, Jostens, announced today that it will be establishing a new state of the art memory book facility in Clarksville-Montgomery County, TN. The announcement means an enhanced facility will be based at a new location in Clarksville-Montgomery County with the current facilities located on Highway 48 transitioning into this new location after the completion of the 2011 school year.

David Smith, Chairman of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council stated, “This announcement is a great example of the value the Economic Development Council, its partners, the Aspire Foundation and our two mayors place on constantly understanding the needs of existing industry and creating an incentives model that favors those who are already here and have a demonstrated commitment to this community.” [Read more]
