The APSU Department of Art LogoClarksville, TN – Studio art major and first place winner of this year’s Austin Peay State University Annual Student Art Show, Renyi Zhang (also known as Isabel Forest), is going to present her work in a new exhibit, “Reinterpretations of Still-Life,” which opens with a reception from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on April 25th, in the Trahern Student Gallery.

The show runs through April 29th, and is free and open to the public.

Zhang’s work is easier to appreciate by understanding some of her artistic roots. She is influenced by Impressionism and Impressionist paintings, loving the idea of little, or small, bold brush strokes, combined with manipulations of light to reflect life. Yet she is also inspired by the blurring technique utilized by German visual artist Gerhard Richter.
Her work shows these different styles while also transcending them.

“No one should be tethered to a movement or person, for they are not that, and most movements are only understood in there waning moments,” she said. “What should and must stand alone is the work, which always lasts longer than the person or latest fad.”

For more information on the exhibit, contact the APSU Department of Art at 931-221-7333.
