Campbell Crossing Helps accomplish ‘Mission Green’
Program Trains Veterans for Jobs in the Green Building Industry
Fort Campbell, KY — Mission Green Campbell Crossing, Operation Stand Down Nashville and Tennessee State University recently joined forces to provide opportunities and resources for Veterans in the Greater Nashville and Fort Campbell area. The program is called Mission Green and it focuses on training Veterans for jobs in the green building industry.
Mission Green is developing, what they call, the “Green Collar Workforce”, by teaching participants the skills and knowledge that they need to be proficient as entry level technical installers in the green building industry. Topics that will be covered during the training courses include the Department of Energy’s (DOE) weatherization requirements for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which includes testing the diagnostics of homes through cost effective weatherization measures. Campbell Crossing is now an official training site for the WAP program.
“We could not be happier to serve as a hands-on training site for the Mission Green program,” said James Hahner, Campbell Crossing program representative. “Sharing this information and teaching new skills to our Veterans, makes this program very worthwhile.”
Headquartered in Nashville, TN, Lend Lease, the project owner and developer for Campbell Crossing, worked with Tennessee State University and Operation Stand Down to choose Campbell Crossing as an official Mission Green Practicum Training Center, and an official Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) training site. Campbell Crossing boasts the first zero energy homes every constructed on a Military installation and all homes on the installation are built to Energy Star standards.
Mission Green training classes begin Tuesday, March 1st at Campbell Crossing. In addition to the WAP program, the courses will cover jobsite safety, air sealing and insulation techniques, HVAC duct insulation, and much more.
Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc (OSDN) is the primary nonprofit resource for veterans in Middle Tennessee providing life changing social services including transitional housing, or referrals, employment readiness training and placement assistance, and coordination of the activities of other agencies in the delivery of such services. OSDN is the only VA approved and supported Veteran Service Center in Tennessee.
Veterans wishing to know more about the program can call Operation Stand Down at 615-248-1981.
