Austin Peay State University’s Paul Collins exhibits new work at Nashville’s Zeitgeist Gallery this March

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – After 30 years as a studio artist, Paul Collins now works exclusively in public spaces.

For each of new project, the Austin Peay State University associate professor of art spends two weeks painting at sites chosen for their history, politics or public use. This March, Collins will present seven of these projects in a new exhibition, “Fortnight Session,” at Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville Tennessee.

New APSU Exhibit “Re-presents” Historic Paintings

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the artist Wes Sherman, an old painting by Vincent van Gogh or George Inness isn’t simply a static work of art. Each piece is alive in the present, with modern day viewers interpreting its images to fit into the world he or she knows.

“I believe that we have always borrowed from the past to redefine or rediscover our existence,” he said.

APSU Hosts 43rd Annual Student Art Exhibit

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Since 1968, the Student Art League and the Visiting Artists and Speakers Committee at Austin Peay State University have mounted a juried exhibition of student work, and this spring, the tradition continues with the 43rd Annual Student Exhibition at APSU.

The show, co-sponsored by the APSU art department and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, will open at 7:00pm, March 28th in the Trahern Gallery and will run through April 15th. The event is free and open to the public. [Read more]
