Hands on Clarksville seeks Veteran Homeowners for Free Weatherization Program

Clarksville, TN – It’s cold outside, but Hands on Clarksville is ready for winter! The local volunteer program recently received a Community Impact grant from the Home Depot Foundation; and the funds will be used to help five local veteran families weatherize their homes.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, drafts in homes are not only annoying but can also be responsible for soaring energy costs in both winter and summer. And, reducing drafts in our homes can lower energy costs from 5 to 30 percent. [Read more]
Youth LEAP Interns Volunteer to serve at Loaves and Fishes

Clarksville, TN – January 21st, 2012, the LEAP Youth Interns volunteered to support Loaves and Fishes in serving the hungry. Loaves and Fishes serves between 150-200 meals daily to the hungry six days a week and distributes food to area agencies through volunteer efforts.
Loaves and Fishes served 45,864 meals in 2011 on site. They also have a Food Distribution Center that distributed approximately 137,000 lbs. of food to 18 other agencies helping the needy.
Hands on Clarksville receives Home Depot Grant for Veteran Weatherization Project

Clarksville, TN – Hands on Clarksville is pleased to announce it has received a community grant from The Home Depot Foundation to help local veterans and their families with weatherization repairs.
With help from Home Depot’s Team Depot, community volunteers will implement the Hometown Heroes Weatherization Project in late February 2012.
According to the Home Depot Foundation website, Home Depot supports volunteering to improve the physical health of neighborhoods and help creates healthier and more stable environments where families can thrive. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay community flexed its muscles, Sunday, when more than 80 volunteers gathered to supply holiday groceries to the Lincoln Homes Community – a section of low-income housing adjacent to Austin Peay’s main campus – as part of the Govs Give Back.
The second-year project, spearheaded by the Austin Peay Fellowship of Christian Athletes, included volunteers from many Governors and Lady Govs sports teams through the Student Athlete Advisory Council, as well as the Baptist Student Ministry, the Church of Christ Student Ministry, UCHURCH and AQUA. Clarksville, TN – Volunteers have been working tirelessly at the Clarksville collection sites where thousands of shoe boxes packed with school supplies, toys and necessity items were dropped off by caring Clarksville residents.
National Collection Week is wrapping up for the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind—Operation Christmas Child—where participants fill empty shoe boxes with items for kids suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, famine, and poverty. Volunteer Bell Ringers needed Thanksgiving through Christmas

Clarksville, TN – In collaboration with Hands On Clarksville, the LEAP Organization is utilizing its youth and mentors to help meet the goal of 600 volunteers during the Serve to Remember Days of Service in remembrance of 9/11.
LEAP Volunteers will help collect care package items for a 9/11 Campaign: Red, White, Blue and True, American Troops during Riverfest on September 9th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and 10th from 10:00am to 9:00pm. [Read more]
