Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.
The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

David Huddle Fiction Reading at Austin Peay State University February 12th

Clarksville, TN – On Tuesday, February 12th, 2013, Austin Peay State University will have a reading by David Huddle at the Morgan University Center, room 303 at 8:00pm.
Huddle will read from his forthcoming novel, “The Faulkes Chronicle”. The reading is free and open to the public.

The 100th meeting with Ed Bearss
Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, July 18th at the Customs House Museum, 200 South 2nd Street in downtown Clarksville.
The Customs House Museum is our partner for this event and we thank them for their help. This is a special fund raising event for the Clarksville CWRT with the proceeds going to help build the Tennessee monument at the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky.

Roxy Regional Theatre introduces actors and actresses for upcoming performances

Clarksville, TN – The warmer weather is not the only change happening in Clarksville, as the Roxy Regional Theatre has a whole new company taking on the next several shows in the 29th season. Some of you will recognize from past Roxy productions and we are excited to have several new faces joining us this season.
I wanted to take a moment to introduce them, as they are a part of our Roxy family and will serve Clarksville with their stellar performances over the next several months.
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” is having its two final performances this weekend at the Roxy Regional Theatre.
Austin Peay State University’s Dr. Blas Falconer edits anthology on “other” Latino experiences

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Blas Falconer, a poet and Austin Peay State University professor of English, grew up in northern Virginia, the son of a Puerto Rican mother and a Caucasian father of German-Scottish descent. Occasionally, in an effort to reconnect with his mother’s heritage, he’d flip through books of verse by the Puerto Rican poets who populated New York City’s Spanish Harlem neighborhood. But when he read this poetry, he felt disconnected from his heritage.
“My identity was shaped by my Latino background, and yet I struggled to identify with a lot of Latino literature being published,” he said. “A lot of it came from these centers of Latino communities – the Puerto Rican community in New York or the Cuban-American community in Miami or the Mexican-American, the Chicano community, in the American Southwest. And so, a lot of the writing that came out of there addressed community concerns.” [Read more]
Fronkensteen Experimental Theatre Group Presents Last Play of its First Season

Clarksville, TN – Fronkensteen Experimental Theatre Group is proud to announce that they will be putting on the last play of their first season, “Last Hope for Twenty Miles” at The Coup starting on Thursday December 15th through Saturday the 17th. All performances are at 4:00pm and tickets are only $4.00.
Directed by Sara Schichtel this play, written by Fronkensteen’s founder, Ricky Steven Young Jr., is an excellent capstone to Fronkensteen’s first season. “We have had so many stops and starts, gotten so many bumps and bruises along the way that this performance is almost a celebration that we have made it through this year. Two local women are on their way to Alabama to offer their services

Clarksville, TN – Rithy Essing and Lonzetta Cleveland are local volunteers with the American Red Cross Clarksville-Montgomery County Chapter and on a national Red Cross registry for disaster volunteers. This is their first week in a two-week volunteer stint providing mass care services in tornado-ravaged Alabama.
“We’re on a national register as mass care shelter specialists and when there is a major event somewhere in the United States, they contact people that are on the register and see if they’re available,” they said Monday.

Afghan President visits Fort Campbell

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Afghan President Hamid Karzai brought a message of thanks to Soldiers and their Families at Fort Campbell today, as the 101st Airborne Division continues to deploy to his country.
Karzai’s visit to the installation comes on the heels of a week of talks in Washington, D.C., with President Barack Obama. The two leaders used the time to help repair relations between Afghanistan and the U.S., after a year of rising tensions. [Read more]
