Montgomery Central Elementary School Veteran’s Day Celebration

Cunningham, TN – The Montgomery Central Elementary School gave salute our Military in honor of Veteran’s Day on Wednesday, November 10th, with their annual “Veteran’s Day Celebration” program. Students kindergarden through 5th grade participated in the event with group performances as well as grade level performances.
The program began at 9:00am in the MCES gymnasium. Several area veterans and current members of the Armed Services were on hand to be honored. There was a large turn out for the event with people standing along the walls to hear children paying their respects to our veterans.
APSU exhibiting art by veterans, military personnel

Clarksville, TN – The artistic talents of Austin Peay State University military-affiliated students will be on display as part of a special exhibit, titled “Showcasing Our Veterans.”
The exhibit, now in its second year, is set for November 12th from 10:00am – 2:00pm in the APSU Morgan University Center lobby, and features works of art by APSU students and faculty who have served in the military.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has been listed by Military Times in its Best For Vets: Colleges 2016 rankings. APSU is one of only two universities in Tennessee to make the annual list of 125 four-year colleges.
In their sixth year, the rankings factor in the results of Military Times’ annual survey, the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement.

Nashville, TN – O’Charley’s Restaurant + Bar locations throughout Clarksville will offer free $9.99er meals to veterans on Monday, November 9th.
All veterans who show their military ID can choose from one of nine $9.99er meals including O’Charley’s Famous Chicken Tenders & Twisted Chips, Bayou Shrimp Pasta and Chicken Fried Steak, among other meals. Restaurant participation may vary by location.
US Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Concert Band to perform at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – The USAF Band of Mid-America’s Concert Band will present a free concert at Clement Auditorium on the campus of Austin Peay State University on October 18th at 1:30pm. This concert is general admission and seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
Presented in partnership with APSU, this is a family-friendly, all ages event.

Ms. Drakos will share her story of being a former concert cellist turned Army wife and entrepreneur, who leveraged her aptitude for performance to co-found InstantEncore.com in 2007.

Austin Peay State University partners with PepsiCo to make Dream Machine recycling machine available on campus

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University is providing students and faculty with a new and rewarding way to recycle their bottles and cans with the installation of a PepsiCo Dream Machine kiosk in the Morgan University Center.
With the start of the 2015-16 school year approaching, the kiosk will join numerous static bins located across the Clarksville campus. APSU is one of only two universities in the state of Tennessee to partner with PepsiCo and install Dream Machines.

Clarksville, TN – Transitioning from military life to student life can be difficult for veterans, particularly if they have recently returned home from a deployment or completed their active duty service.
Unlike the structured environment of the military, universities have a variety of colleges, departments and administrative areas that can feel like a complicated maze to navigate.
APSU named VETS Campus by state commission

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s longstanding support of military veterans has led the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) to name the University a Veterans Education Transition Support (VETS) Campus.
According to THEC, VETS Campus certification is awarded to higher education institutions that “not only prioritize outreach to veterans, but successfully deliver the services necessary to create a supportive environment where student veterans can prosper while pursuing their education.”
