Austin Peay State University History Professor Dr. Sheena Harris teaches classes in Honduras

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Soto Cano Air Base sits at the bottom of the Comayagua Valley in the Central American nation of Honduras. It’s home to about 500 U.S. Army soldiers, and this past January, a handful of them gathered inside a small wood hut with a sheet metal roof.

The building served as a classroom for the first “on-the-ground” college courses offered at the remote base, and Dr. Sheena Harris, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of history, traveled all the way from Clarksville to teach the new classes.

APSU to hold Military/Veteran Graduate Recognition Ceremony December 12th for Fall Graduates

The military and veteran graduate recognition and coin presentation ceremony, with the theme “All Hail to Those Who Serve,” is scheduled for 5:00pm, Wednesday, December 12th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Mabry Concert Hall. The event is open to the public.

Sporting Clay Shoot to benefit This Able Veteran this Saturday

this ABLE VeteranSouthside, TN – There will be a a fundraising event for This Able Veteran this Saturday, November 10th, at Montgomery County Shooting Complex. This will be a 100 Bird Event. There will be four man teams (Single Shooters will be Squaded).

The Preston Hubbard Scholarship Dinner will be held at 7:00pm, Friday, October 26th in the Morgan University Center Ballroom. Cost is $25.00 per person, with the proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund to help deserving history students. [Read more]

APSU recipient of gift annuity from longtime educator, APSU alumnus and leader

For 38 years, Dr. Harold S. Pryor served Tennessee higher education in some capacity – from professor to administrator to volunteer.

Pryor has been retired for some time, but he continues his support of education, in general, and of Austin Peay, specifically. Pryor, of Columbia, recently established a gift annuity to APSU, demonstrating his love of education and student success.

“I have fond memories of APSU,” he said. “I wanted to do something for the University.”

Pryor said giving back – whether through monetary donations or philanthropic services – to one’s alma mater provides the building block for generations to come.

“We have an obligation, in one way or another, to help higher education and the students,” he said. “It’s an important thing to do.” [Read more]
