Tribute to late educator Dr. Preston J. Hubbard to be held March 30th at Austin Peay

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A memorial to the life of former Austin Peay State University professor — and World War II hero — Dr. Preston J. Hubbard will take place March 30th at 5:00pm at the Preston Hubbard Veteran’s Colonnade on the University campus.

The event is open to the public, and all are invited to pay tribute to an educator who touched the lives of countless students, colleagues and friends.

APSU announces Candlelight Ball Award winners

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Office of Alumni Relations has announced the recipients of the 2016 Candlelight Ball Awards. The Wendell H. Gilbert Award will go to Jack B. Turner (’67), president of Jack B. Turner and Associates, and the Spirit of Austin Peay Award will go to Josh Baggett (’05), district engineering technician with Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation.

Since 2011, the University has honored two individuals who have supported or brought recognition to APSU through their achievements or contributions. [Read more]

Sue Freeman Culverhouse Speaks to Montgomery County Historical Society about Robert Penn Warren

Montgomery County Historical SocietyClarksville, TN – Author Sue Freeman Culverhouse was the featured speaker as she described the life of Robert Penn Warren at the June 15th meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society. President Joe Filippo greeted the members and had the treasurer announce the upcoming barbeque fund-raiser to be held at the end of July.

Billyfrank Morrison gave a history of the school built on the site of the community center in South Guthrie, TN, where the event was held.

Acuff Circle to honor Mabrys at Jazz in June event

Acuff Circle of ExcellenceClarksville, TN – The Acuff Circle of Excellence will honor George and Sharon Mabry at the organization’s summertime Jazz in June on June 12th. The event, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, will be at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery, and the public is invited.

The Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, serves as a patron society of the University’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, and advances the importance of arts and culture at the University and in the community. The endowed Acuff Circle of Excellence Arts Scholarship is awarded each year to an APSU student majoring in the fine arts.

APSU recognizes outstanding faculty during 2015 Academic Awards Ceremony

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On April 28th, Austin Peay State University recognized several outstanding faculty members during the annual Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony in the Mabry Concert Hall.

The University’s top faculty honor, the APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, was presented to Dr. Nell Rayburn, professor of mathematics. Rayburn earned her Ph.D. in mathematics from Vanderbilt University, and in 1988, she arrived at APSU as an assistant professor.

APSU again designated as StormReady by National Weather Service

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Clarksville and Montgomery County are no strangers to severe weather, as flood, thunderstorm and tornado warnings are common occurrences in the lives of its citizens.

It is for just that reason that Austin Peay State University’s emergency team has consistently reacted quickly to alert the campus community to any potential danger. For instance, whenever tornado warnings are received, APSU sends a text and an email message to students, faculty and staff, and the outdoor public address system brings weather warnings to attention.

The All State, APSU’s student newspaper, takes home state, AP awards

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s student newspaper, The All State, was recently honored for its excellence on both the regional and state levels.

The All State earned a No. 4 in the South ranking on February 27th at the annual Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC), held February 27th-28th at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Nashville Artist Guild Commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War at the Customs House Museum

Head of Tennessee Promise Mike Krause to speak at Ausitn Peay State University’s 2014 Fall Commencement

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Mike Krause is the type of person who likes a challenge. In the fall of 2006, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Austin Peay State University while still serving as a soldier in the 101st Airborne Division.

Eight years later, as executive director of the Tennessee Promise and Drive to 55 Initiative in the Office of Governor Bill Haslam, he is in charge of one of the most ambitious programs in the state’s history.

APSU is joined by 26 tenure-track faculty

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A total of 26 new tenure-track faculty members have become part of the Austin Peay State University community, beginning with the Fall 2014 semester.

Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a member of the American Association of Health Education and the Society of Public Health Education. [Read more]
