APSU to graduate record 1,000-plus students May 4th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will award degrees to 1,075 students – the largest class in APSU history – during its 83rd Spring Commencement on Friday, May 4th in the Dunn Center.

More students are graduating from APSU because of the University’s increased efforts to offer students more opportunities to finish their degrees faster. One of those opportunities is APSU’s new Winter Term, which launched in December 2011. Some of the students will be able to graduate May 4th because they took a course during Winter Term. Two Austin Peay State University students earn prestigious Goldwater Scholarships

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Harvard University had a couple of students receive prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships this year. So did MIT and Princeton. Another school on that list to have an unprecedented two students receive scholarships was Austin Peay State University, with physics majors Drew Kerr and Mason Yost.

“The Goldwater Scholarship is for rising juniors and seniors, and it’s very competitive and prestigious,” Dr. Matthew Kenney, APSU political science associate professor and the University’s Goldwater Scholarship representative, said. “It carries with it a $7,500 scholarship.”

Congressman Phil Roe guest speaker at Austin Peay State University

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County Director of Schools Mike Harris has named Christina Harris as the principal of Rossview Middle School for the next school year. Current Rossview Middle principal Anna Neubauer plans to retire at the end of this school year.

Mrs. Harris graduated Summa Cum Laude with her B.A. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She also earned her M.S. in education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a second M.S. in educational administration from Concordia University in Wisconsin.

UT Extension Launches Online Domestic Kitchen Certification Course

UT Extension OfficeKnoxville, TN – Earning certification to prepare, manufacture and sell certain foods from a home kitchen is now more convenient for Tennesseans thanks to a new online training module from University of Tennessee Extension.

Domestic Kitchen Food Safety Training, which launched Wednesday, February 1st, provides instruction centered around the state’s Domestic Kitchen Rule. The rule allows people to commercially prepare, manufacture and sell non-potentially hazardous foods in the home while ensuring the public’s health is protected. [Read more]

The APSU Foundation provides the structure through which the University can work directly with special volunteers and community leaders to enhance the financial well being of the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to financially support the University.

The Foundation is a separate entity and is chartered by the state, with the authority to receive private gifts in support of the University. Through its executive committee, the Foundation makes its own policy decisions. The University provides administrative support to the Foundation. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University continues to move toward the 11,000-student mark. Figures for the Fall 2011 semester show a record enrollment of 10,873 students at APSU.

But APSU has more reason to celebrate. Not only is enrollment increasing, but APSU also is graduating more students than ever.
