Planters Bank Supports Northeast Middle School Robotics Team

Clarksville, TN – Representatives from Planters Bank recently presented a check to the Northeast Middle School robotics teams.
The Northeast Electric Eagles Gold First LEGO League (FLL) robotics team recently won the First Place Champion’s Award and the Blue FLL team won the Robotic Programming Award at the West Tennessee State Championship held at the University of Memphis on December 8th, 2012.

APSU gets International Recognition for Student Success Initiative

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) is harnessing “the Netflix effect” to new heights.
More than a year ago, APSU launched Degree Compass, a course recommendation system to help students stay on track toward graduation by. It was dubbed “the Netflix effect” because it provides students with personalized recommendations based on their academic transcript, similar to the way Netflix makes movie suggestions to customers. Two Austin Peay State University students earn prestigious Goldwater Scholarships

Clarksville, TN – Harvard University had a couple of students receive prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships this year. So did MIT and Princeton. Another school on that list to have an unprecedented two students receive scholarships was Austin Peay State University, with physics majors Drew Kerr and Mason Yost.
“The Goldwater Scholarship is for rising juniors and seniors, and it’s very competitive and prestigious,” Dr. Matthew Kenney, APSU political science associate professor and the University’s Goldwater Scholarship representative, said. “It carries with it a $7,500 scholarship.”

APSU incurs lowest tuition increase by Tennessee Board of Regents

Salary Increases coming after 4-year Wait
Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) today approved an 8.8 percent tuition and fee rate for Austin Peay State University. Although APSU officials prefer that students not incur tuition increases, APSU’s increase was the lowest among all TBR universities, community colleges and technology centers.
APSU President Tim Hall said, “We never want to put more financial burden on our students. However, we are fortunate to have the lowest increase among TBR institutions.” [Read more]
APSU given StormReady sign by National Weather Service

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University was designated a StormReady University by the National Weather Service during a brief presentation held Tuesday, May 24th on the main campus.
Larry Vannozzi, meteorologist in charge with the NWS in Nashville, and Tom Johnstone, also with the NWS Nashville bureau, presented APSU Chief of Police Lantz Biles with a StormReady sign to be placed on the APSU main campus.

Clarksville, TN – In the last several weeks, Montgomery County has been under many flood, severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings – and Austin Peay State University’s emergency team has reacted quickly to alert the campus community.
For instance, whenever tornado warnings are received, APSU sends text and email messages to students, faculty and staff, and the outdoor public address system brings weather warnings to attention.
Because of APSU’s efforts to keep the campus informed of weather situations, the National Weather Service has certified APSU as a StormReady community. [Read more]
