Political tensions arose over whether to defund or delay major provisions of the ACA.

Susan Bryant, APSU professor of photography, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, October 3rd, in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. She will discuss and provide a brief history of the of the 19th century photography method known as the wet plate collodion process.

American Cancer Society Relay For Life Kickoff Rally on October 1st at Clarksville’s Hilldale Baptist Family Life Center

Relay for LifeClarksville, TN – On October 1st, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® campaign of Montgomery County will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather at the Hilldale Baptist Family Life Center for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year.

In addition to a delicious meal and fellowship with some of Clarksville’s finest volunteers, the rally will feature speakers from the community who have benefited from funds raised at Relay, will honor cancer survivors, will recognize this past year’s participating teams and their contributions toward this effort, and the award-winning step team from West Creek High School will perform.

APSU moves up 18 spots on Best Colleges list

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2014 rankings were released September 10th, and Austin Peay State University jumped an astounding 18 spots this year, placing 69th in the Regional University South rankings.

That category includes schools from the southeastern United States that offer a full range of undergraduate programs, with some master’s programs but few doctoral programs. Last year, APSU ranked 87th in that category. [Read more]

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System - CMCSSMontgomery County, TN – A community open house will be held at Pisgah Elementary School Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The school is located on the corner of Hazelwood Road and Needmore Road.

Pisgah Elementary School was so named by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education in honor and commemoration of Pisgah School, which was served African American students from 1923 to 1962. [Read more]

The Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – Tennessee just made global news for its award winning wines.

Tennessee wineries took home 21 medals from the recent Indy International Wine Competition at Purdue University, one of the nation’s largest wine competitions.

The West Lafayette, Indiana event attracted more than 2,300 wines from 39 states and 14 countries as far away as France, Australia, Chile and Greece. The wines were judged by 44 international experts in a completely blind taste competition based on appearance, aroma, taste and aftertaste.

Montgomery County names Franklin Mir as new Veterans Service Organization Director

Montgomery County GovernmentMontgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Mayor’s Office is pleased to announce that Franklin Mir has been selected as the new Veterans Service Organization director.

He has most recently served as a Human Resources Specialist for the Personnel Service Battalion, Fort Campbell, KY.

Mir holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Sacred Heart and a master’s degree from Murray State University.

Saturday Event to Benefit Shelter Dogs and Cats

Humane Society of Clarksville – Montgomery County (HSCMC)Clarksville, TN – Dozens of volunteers and local animal advocates have organized an outreach and fundraising event that will be held in the parking lot of Montgomery County Animal Control, 616 North Spring Street, this Saturday, June 15th between 10:00am-4:00pm.

Saturday’s event is inspired by a nationwide effort known as the National No Kill Movement, which challenges animal shelters, animal advocates and communities across the nation to do better. Per the organization’s website: The leading cause of deaths among healthy dogs and cats in the United States is due to killing in shelters.

APSU Offers New Graduate Degree

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – This fall, Austin Peay State University will offer a new graduate degree that will bring together science and business skills to give students a greater competitive advantage in the workforce. The Professional Science Masters, or PSM, will enable students to pursue advanced training in science or mathematics while developing workplace skills.

The PSM at APSU will be a fully online degree program, allowing students to work on a degree while continuing to hold employment. Students can pursue one of two concentrations – data management and analysis or predictive analytics. Both concentrations are ideal for anyone with a bachelor’s degree, working in industry or military and having a desire to advance their career with a technical degree. [Read more]
