Clarksville Weekly Market Snapshot from Frazier Allen for the week of November 1st, 2015

November 1, 2015

F&M Investment Services - Raymond James - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The Federal Open Market Committee left short-term interest rates unchanged, but the tone of the policy statement was unexpectedly hawkish. The FOMC removed the phrase about downside risks from the global economy, but said that it would monitor global economic and financial developments.

It also specifically talked about the decision framework for “the next meeting,” clearly putting a December 16th rate hike back in play.

Clarksville Weekly Market Snapshot from Frazier Allen for the week of October 28th, 2015

October 28, 2015

F&M Investment Services - Raymond James - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The economic calendar was light. Residential construction figures were mixed, largely reflecting the usual noise in the multi-family sector data (single-family starts and permits were little changed and still up strongly from a year ago). Existing home sales rebounded from a surprise drop in August. The four-week average for jobless claims fell to the lowest level since 1973.

Earnings reports were mixed, but investors appeared to be encouraged by the view that economic growth will continue, but not so fast that the Federal Reserve rushes to take away the punch bowl.

Austin Peay State University student promotes music education in Washington, D.C.

September 23, 2015

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In July, Austin Peay State University music education student Davey Edmaiston boarded an airplane for the first time. If he was nervous, the Troy, Tennessee, native probably calmed himself by thinking about the importance of his trip. In a few hours, he’d land in Washington, D.C., to ask members of the U.S. Congress to make music education a priority for American school children.

“I’d never been anywhere out of the state before. First plane ride and everything. My mom was pretty scared,” Edmaiston said. “But we got to meet with senators and House representatives and talk about the Every Child Achieves Act, which identifies music as a core-curricular so every student has access to music.”

Census Bureau Releases 2009 City Population Estimates

June 23, 2010

Washington, DC — The U.S. Census Bureau today released July 1st, 2009, population estimates for each of the nation’s incorporated places, including cities, boroughs and villages and minor civil divisions, such as towns and townships. The new estimates are not 2010 Census population counts. They are, however, the last estimates to use 2000 Census results as a base.

The city estimates are based on 2000 Census data updated to reflect legal boundary changes, housing unit estimates updated to reflect inputs such as building permits, and county population estimates. The county population estimates are produced by using administrative records — namely births, deaths, and domestic and international migration. The resulting county population estimates are then distributed to the areas within each county by using the updated housing unit estimates. [Read more]
