APSU nursing student wins THEC community service award

Clarksville, TN – Navdeep Saini, who may well be the nicest student attending Austin Peay State University, doesn’t like to talk about himself that much. If pressed, he’ll admit that he speaks six languages and has a degree in biotechnology (that he earned in Russian), but talking about his accomplishments seems to embarrass him.
He looked particularly shy at APSU’s Einstein Bros. Bagels coffee shop earlier this month when someone asked Saini about another accolade.
Austin Peay State University hosting CSM Darol Walker Award Ceremony on April 28th

Clarksville, TN – Colonel Rob Salome, garrison commander at Fort Campbell, will visit Austin Peay State University at 8:00am on April 28th to help recognize an outstanding APSU ROTC cadet during the annual CSM Darol Walker Award Ceremony and Breakfast.
Jack B. Turner established the award several years ago in honor of Darol Walker, retired vice president of Jack B. Turner and Associates Inc. in Clarksville and retired command sergeant major in the U.S. Army.

The Story of Alvin York on View at the Customs House

Clarksville, TN – The Crouch Gallery of the Customs House Museum has taken on a military appearance this month with the exhibit “In the Footsteps of Alvin York”. This show tells the life story of the man from Pall Mall, Tennessee, in Fentress County, who became one of the most decorated American soldiers in World War I.
On October 8th, 1918, Cpl. (later Sgt.) York led seven soldiers against a much larger German force in the Argonne Forest near the small town of Chatel Chehery, France.

Cuban Artist Mayda Saborit to show Cuban Heart at Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will be featuring Cuban artist Mayda Saborit’s paintings in the alcove gallery at the rear of the first floor with an opening on Friday, June 19th.
Saborit’s painterly and colorful oils capture the feel of Cuba from street life to beautiful landscapes.
Vietnam Veterans of America held their annual Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil Sunday night, May 24th

Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, May 25th, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 396 held their annual Candlelight Vigil to remember the men and women who were left behind in Vietnam when American forces withdrew in 1975.
It is a solemn occasion when a nation gathers together to honor its soldiers, those who lived to come home, but even more importantly those who did not.

Army Historian John J. O’Brien to speak about History of Fort Campbell at Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library May 4th

Clarksville, TN – LTC John J. O’Brien, USA (Ret.) will be the featured speaker at the Friends of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library’s annual meeting on Monday, May 4th at noon.
O’Brien is currently Fort Campbell Post Historian and has recently written a book entitled A History of Fort Campbell, which will be the topic of his discussion.
