Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Tennova Healthcare. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

U.S. Army launches JROTC Robotics Program at Kenwood High School

Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS)Clarksville, TN – On Wednesday, October 26th, 2017 the U.S. Army launched its JROTC Robotics Program at Kenwood High School. Four CMCSS high school robotics programs will be in place: Kenwood High School, Northeast High School, West Creek High School, with Rossview High School and Northwest High School combined.

APSU’s Martin Golson elected as Vice President of National Learning Center Organization

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University Director of the Academic Support Center Martin Golson was recently recognized as a leader among his peers in the learning center community when he was elected to serve as vice president of the National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) for the 2017-18 year.

“If you’re working in a learning center, the NCLCA is something you should be a part of, because we certify professionals working in learning centers and learning centers themselves that promote standards of excellence,” Golson said. “I’m very fortunate to have been chosen by my fellow members (as vice president).”

Clarksville’s Quilts of Valor holds Sew for 22 event at Absolutely Fun Sewing

Quilts of Valor FoundationClarksville, TN – In bring awareness to the service members and veterans that take their lives everyday, Quilts of Valor, Quilting in Clarksville held a Sew for 22 event on September 22nd, 2017 at Absolutely Fun Sewing.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs released a study which showed that roughly 22 veterans were dying by suicide per day, or one every 65 minutes.

“We do not want to continue to see this. One life is too many.” stated Roberta Samuels, Quilts of Valor. “So we organized this day with the idea from Cinde Jones with Absolutely Fun Sewing. She offered to allow us to sew in the store.”

APSU student Ja-kay Matheny overcomes brain tumor to pursue education, comedy career

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University social work major Ja-kay Matheny has been a lot of things in his life, including a father, husband, soldier, student — even an aspiring standup comedian. But for much of the last few years, Matheny himself would admit that he was barely anything at all.

“I was sick for a long, long time,” Matheny said. “I was gaining weight, failing classes, forgetting simple things I should know and I was getting angry with my kids all the time for no reason.

Montgomery County Government announces Michelle Newell as new Public Information Officer

Dr. Kristine Nakutis named as executive director of the Austin Peay State University Center at Fort Campbell

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Dr. Kristine V. Nakutis has been hired as the executive director of the Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell, effective May 15th, 2017.

A retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, Nakutis comes to Austin Peay from Jackson State Community College, where she has served as veterans affairs coordinator since 2015.
