Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will once again present a Summer reading Program for the children and young adults in Montgomery County. “One World, Many Stories” is the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program in libraries all across Tennessee and the nation. Everyone can participate in this free program!
Sign up at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library in the Children’s’ Library. Programs begin on June 6th, 2011 and continue through July 8th, 2011. Children are rewarded for reading or for listening to books being read. [Read more]
Clarksville Downtown Market to Open May 21st

Clarksville, TN – When the 2011 Clarksville Downtown Market opens Saturday, May 21st, approximately 45 vendors will be on hand offering local fresh produce, baked goods, home décor, seasonal flowers and more. The Clarksville Downtown Market is open every Saturday from opening day, May 21st until October 22nd from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Public Square.
Last year, Clarksville’s Downtown Market at Public Square was voted #1 in the state of Tennessee and #6 in the nation, in the 2010 America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest which was hosted by American Farmland Trust. The online contest was a nationwide challenge to see which of America’s farmers markets can rally the most support from their communities- and support we did receive! Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit application deadline extended

Nashville, TN – The application deadline has been extended until May 7th, 2010 for the Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit (TOYS), June 13th-18th. TOYS is for high school students from across Tennessee and will be hosted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Students will be introduced to many outdoor activities at the event to be held at TWRA’s complex in Montgomery County. Among the activities that the students will become acquainted with will include boating, hunting, trapping, archery, photography, marksmanship, plant identification, forestry, camping, water quality, trap shooting, skeet shooting, wildlife identification, and several classes with wildlife and fishery biology as the topic. 17th annual Governors Bass Tournament is just two weeks away

Clarksville, TN – The 17th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just two weeks away.
This year’s version will be held Saturday, May 14th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing, Tennessee, State Park. Last season’s tourney was postponed from May 8th to May 23rd, due to flood conditions that surrounded the area. Despite the two-week delay, the tourney still drew 269 boats.
Despite recent heavy rains, this year’s tourney looks promising. APSU again is hopeful of approaching the 300-boat total—the record of 333 was set in 2009.
Vaccination Requirements for Incoming Kindergartners and 7th Graders

Montgomery County, TN – Parents of sixth graders and children who will enter kindergarten in August, should be aware of the immunization requirements needed to be admitted into school for the 2011-2012 school year.
Those entering kindergarten or 7th grade, will be required to have updated immunizations prior to entering school in the fall. It is important to note that it is state law that no child shall be permitted to attend school until proof of immunization is provided to the school. [Read more]
Barnes and Pitts Support Unemployment Benefits for Military Spouses

Clarksville, TN – On March 10th, at 12:00noon, State Senator Tim Barnes (D-Adams) and State Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) announce a bill to help Tennessee military families by extending unemployment benefits to individuals who leave their jobs to accompany their spouses on a military transfer.

Mayor Piper Announces He will not seek Re-Election

With his wife Donita and daughter Heather by his side, Mayor Johnny Piper announced on March 30th 2010 at 3:00 pm that he will not seek re-election for a third term as Mayor of Clarksville Tennessee.
