U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn notes concerns about funding for Higher Education during visit at Austin Peay Staet University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An expanded Medicaid and other rising health care costs will impact Tennessee financially, but how those escalating expenses will shortchange state allocations for higher education concerns U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn.

“What we learned from TennCare is that every dollar went to health care, and higher education lost out,” Blackburn said during a visit April 2nd at Austin Peay State University. “We are incredibly concerned about what health care on a federal level is going to do to states and colleges and universities.”

Army Veteran Hubert Thomas to be Honored by House of Heroes this week

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – House of Heroes, Inc., a community-focused 501(c)(3) program, is coming to Clarksville on April 4th and 5th, 2012, to honor Sergeant Major (Ret.) Hubert Thomas and his wife, Mary Elizabeth.

The House of Heroes program honors military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses by repairing and improving their homes at no cost. Since its inception in 1999, the program has repaired over 450 homes nationwide. The Thomas’ house will be the program’s first project in Tennessee. [Read more]

The Customs House Museum reopens 1898 Building with an Open House Event April 28th

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – After months of renovation, the Customs House 1898 building will be reopening on April 28th.

In February, Customs House Museum closed the doors to its 1898 building in order to replace nine undersized, outdated, and malfunctioning Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning units (HVAC) with four commercial units.

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – On March 27th, 28th, and 29th, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, and March 30th, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, the Customs House Museum will have Spring Break activities for the kids.

But the conflict did have a pivotal impact on the United States, giving us the national anthem, Gen. Andrew Jackson and even Tennessee’s nickname as the “Volunteer State.”

Customs House Museum and Cultural Center remains open during Sidewalk Repairs

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Sidewalk repairs started March 12th at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. The main entrance to the Museum is closed so that repairs to the sidewalk can be completed.

The Museum wants to remind visitors that during this time, everyone must use the back entrance located in the Museum’s parking lot. Again, the Museum is not closed during this repair. The back entrance is open.

Tennessee School Boards AssociationNashville, TN – Students from Clarksville Montgomery School System joined approximately 400 of their high school peers in Nashville on March 9th to express their views on public education in Tennessee at the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) Student Congress on Policies in Education (SCOPE).
