Clarksville County Arts and Heritage Development Council to hold Exhibition, Reception for 2Rivers Plein Air Paint-Off

Clarksville, TN – This Friday and Saturday, October 16th and 17th, artists from around Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky will arrive in Clarksville to paint the city in the 2Rivers Plein Air Paint-out.
Clarksvillians are invited to a reception and exhibition of work produced through the weekend at the L & N Train Station, on Saturday October 17th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. They may also purchase fresh, original work featuring scenes of their favorite Clarksville landscapes, painted en plein air.

Clarksville plein air watercolorist Eunice Kern found a way to stay dry during last year’s 2Rivers Paint-Out competition as she painted a scene at Smith Trahern Mansion. Organizers expect better, brighter weather next weekend.
New APSU scholarship to help East Tennessee students become Special Education teachers

Clarksville, TN – Students from Scott and Blount counties interested in becoming special education teachers are eligible for a new scholarship at Austin Peay State University, thanks to a recent gift from an anonymous donor.
The East Tennessee donor will give APSU’s Martha Dickerson Eriksson College of Education (MDECOE) $50,000 over the next five years for its Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) scholarship initiative. [Read more]
Clarksville’s Native American Cultural Circle to hold 18th Annual Intertribal Powwow at Port Royal October 10th and 11th

Clarksville, TN – The Native Cultural Circle (NCC) of Clarksville will be holding their 18th annual Intertribal Powwow on October 10th and 11th; the festivities begin around 9:00am on Saturday, and 10:00am on Sunday. The Grand Entry that officially opens each day begins around Noon. Come out and take part in a two day celebration of Native American Culture and traditions.
October Exhibits Bring Sense of Nostalgia to Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum traditionally offers Tennessee-flavored exhibits during the fourth quarter of the calendar year, and October 2015 is no exception.
New gallery shows include Patterns of History, which features quilts from the museum collection. Sponsored in part by Legends Bank, this exhibit highlights fifteen covers dating as far back as 1830.
Two CMCSS High Schools Make U.S. News Ranking

Montgomery County, TN – Two Clarksville-Montgomery County School System high schools are listed in the 2015 U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools project, which identifies the country’s top-performing public high schools.
Kenwood High School and the Middle College at Austin Peay State University were both named in the listing, each meeting the criteria of the bronze level.

AFT Releases Final Results of Summer Long Effort
Clarksville, TN – This week marked the end of American Farmland Trust’s summer-long Farmers Market Celebration – an annual effort to rally support for local farms and family farmers by calling on shoppers to identify the best of America’s farmers markets and Clarksville Downtown Farmers Market was rated number one in Tennessee.

New APSU scholarship honors victim of carbon monoxide poisoning

Clarksville, TN – At Kenwood High School on Tuesday, 18-year-old Skylar Hughes presented Austin Peay State University President Alisa White with a $25,000 check.
The money, which Skylar helped raise, will fund the Kathryn Watson Over Endowment—a new scholarship, named for Skylar’s former teacher, that will be awarded each year to a Kenwood graduate majoring in education at APSU.

APSU to host recital with Kate Rawls, Mei-En Chou

Recital presented APSU Department of Music, Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present a guest artist recital by soprano Kate Rawls and pianist Mei-En Chou on Thursday, September 17th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the University campus.
The varied program will feature beautiful, melodic songs and arias by J.S. Bach, Amy Beach, Gabriel Fauré and contemporary American composer, Ben Moore, as well as two exciting and atmospheric solo piano works by Ravel and Bolcom.
International Nature Artists Exhibit at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum’s Kimbrough Gallery is the temporary home to Black-faced Tamarins, Sumatran Tigers, and Cherry-throated Tanagers through October 4th.
The artwork in the exhibit, Nature as Art, Art as Awareness, was created by members of the 52-Week-Challenge, a social media group.
