APSU’s SGI and Tennessee State Parks set “good fire” at Dunbar Cave

Clarksville, TN – On a clear October afternoon, 15 acres of restored native prairie at Dunbar Cave State Park in Clarksville, Tennessee, went up in flames. Smoke lifted high over city streets and neighborhoods, while community volunteers and officials with the Tennessee Division of Natural Areas cheered on a well-planned prescribed fire to help promote and enhance native prairie species.
Dunbar Cave State Park, Port Royal State Historic Park to hold National Trails Day Hikes, June 1st

Nashville, TN – On Saturday, June 1st, 2019, Tennessee State Parks will celebrate National Trails Day with free guided hikes at all 56 state parks. Dunbar Cave State Park and Port Royal State Historic Park will be holding hikes led by park rangers.
This will be the third of the state parks’ signature hikes this year, following First Day Hikes in January and Spring Hikes in March. Thus far, 4,787 park visitors have participated in the hikes.

Clarksville, TN – With warmer weather coming, Dunbar Cave State Park and Port Royal State Historic Park are hosting free guided spring hikes led by park rangers on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019.
The hikes fit every level, from short easy-to-walk trails to longer treks through more adventurous terrain, each featuring the natural settings that are so diverse across the state.
“The spring hikes are a great way to explore our parks, as well as get to know other people who share the outdoors in a group setting,” said Anne Marshall, acting deputy commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Nashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks will offer free, guided hikes at all 56 state parks the day after Thanksgiving, November 23rd, 2018. Dunbar Cave State Park will be holding an “After Thanksgiving Hike” Wednesday.
“Tennessee’s state parks are once again offering the opportunity to get outdoors the day after Thanksgiving to engage in healthy, fun activities,” said Brock Hill, deputy commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. “It’s a chance to explore the state parks with loved ones around the holidays, with skilled rangers leading the way.”
Dunbar Cave State Park to host Student Volunteers on Tennessee Promise Saturday

Clarksville, TN – Tennessee State Parks are offering volunteer events across the state to help Tennessee Promise scholars log community service hours on Saturday, June 24th, 2017.
Get some of your Tennessee Promise hours knocked out by volunteering at Dunbar Cave State Park. They could use your help to repaint the fence around the parking lot. They will provide the paint and the brushes, you provide the labor! It is recommended that you wear old clothes and shoes as painting can be messy.
Dunbar Cave State Park to hold National Trails Day hike, June 3rd

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, Dunbar Cave State Park will celebrate National Trails Day with a one mile hike on our Short Loop Trail. This is a moderate hike so wear good walking shoes and bring water.
The hike will start at 1:30pm and last until around 2:30pm. Everyone is to meet outside at the Visitor Center.
This event is free.
Dunbar Cave State Park to hold First Day Hike on January 1st, 2017

Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Park located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road will hold a First Day Hike on January 1st, 2017. Come out and join them on their first hike of the year! The hike will start at 8:30am and end around 9:30am.
They will walk the 1 mile Short Loop Trail and see if any animals are out and stirring. This is a moderate hike so wear good walking shoes. It is suitable for all ages.
Everyone will meet up at the Dunbar Cave Visitor Center.
Junior Ranger Day Camp at Dunbar Cave State Natural Area

Clarksville, TN – It is our pleasure to announce Dunbar Cave State Natural Area’s second annual Junior Ranger Day Camp. This camp is designed for children ages 8 and 9 years old. Programs will help children build a better relationship with the great outdoors and have fun, while learning.
Camp will be held from 9:00am to 12:00pm, Wednesday – Friday, June 17th – 19th. Participants must attend all three days to earn a Tennessee State Parks Jr. Ranger certificate and badge.
Clarksville’s Downtown Artists Co-op has two members selected to make holiday ornaments for State Christmas Tree

Clarksville, TN – Two of Clarksville’s Downtown Artists’ Co-op artists have been chosen to prepare holiday ornaments representing the state’s parks for the main tree at the Governor’s Mansion.
The artists are: Judy Morgan who painted the ornament representing Dunbar Cave and Lynne Griffey who’s created Port Royal’s piece.
The ornaments are hand-painted pieces of art showcasing each park’s unique character.
