United States Department of DefenseNashville, TN– Tennessee State Representative Curtis Johnson (R-Clarksville) was recognized recently by the United States Department of Defense for his “leadership on public policy changes positively impacting the quality of life of Service members and their families.”

The award of appreciation comes after Rep. Johnson successfully passed several bills to aid military service members and their families, including House Bill 1106 which was approved this year. That new law requires a court to hold an expedited hearing, if appropriate, for a temporary modification to a decree for child custody or visitation when a parent, who is to be mobilized into military duty, requires immediate attention. It also requires the court to allow testimony to be given by electronic means while the military parent is out of the state and authorizes the court to permanently modify a decree of child custody or visitation if a parent volunteers for successive or frequent duties that removes the parent from the state. Clarksville Leaders make Nashville Post’s “In Charge” List

Nashville PostNashville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is among a handful of local people who made the Nashville Post’s “In Charge” list of Middle Tennessee’s business and political “power brokers.”

This is the second year the prominent Music City business publication has recognized those in the Nashville area who have “the ability to use a position to create opportunity for others … in business, government or on broader civic issues,” according to the magazine’s March/April issue. The list was broken into various categories such as Banking & Finance, Education, and Government/Politics, in addition to Media, Music, Sports and Technology. [Read more]

gun-lawsThe House Judiciary Committee once again discussed several pieces of gun legislation, but only one bill was approved by the committee and advanced through the Calendar and Rules Committee to be scheduled for a floor vote. House Bill 959 will exempt the handgun carry permit list from the Open Records Act, but a proposed $2,500 penalty for publishing the list was removed by an amendment. The legislation is expected to be up for a floor vote, possibly next week. [Read more]
